🚨 SCAM ALERT: Fraudulent Court Notice Text Messages 🚨

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a fraudulent text message scam currently circulating in our area.

Citizens have reported receiving text messages claiming to be from the “Commonwealth of Virginia – District Court,” stating they are in “FINAL ENFORCEMENT STATUS” for unpaid traffic violations. These messages often include alarming language, case numbers, and even a QR code or payment instructions.

⚠️ Please be advised:

* These messages are NOT legitimate.
* Courts and law enforcement agencies do NOT send enforcement notices via unsolicited text message.
* Official court matters are typically handled through mail or in-person proceedings, not random phone numbers.

🚫 Do NOT:

* Click any links or scan QR codes
* Provide personal or financial information
* Respond to the message

✅ What you should do:

* Delete the message immediately
* Report it as spam through your phone
* If you are concerned about a legitimate court matter, contact the **Virginia District Court directly using official contact information

Scammers often use fear and urgency to trick individuals into sending money or sharing sensitive information. Stay alert and always verify before taking action.

This weekend our community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of three young men whose lives were tragically cut short in a car accident. These students were set to graduate in May from the same high school I proudly call my alma mater—a milestone that should have been filled with celebration, hope, and new beginnings.

While I did not know these young men personally, I do know members of their families, and my heart aches deeply for them and for all who loved these young men. No words can truly ease the pain of such a loss, but please know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of myself and this entire community.

May we all come together to support one another, hold our loved ones a little closer, and remember the impact these young lives had, however brief.

Please keep their families, friends, classmates, and teachers in your prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Information for Spotsylvania County Property Owners: Deed Fraud Alert Notifications

We have received many inquiries about whether Spotsylvania County offers a deed fraud alert notification service, especially as surrounding jurisdictions have recently introduced similar programs.

Spotsylvania County has been offering this service since October 2, 2024.

Property owners can register to receive alerts that notify them of any activity involving their property records—an important tool in helping detect potential deed fraud.
