Wednesday evening, SVFD Company 1 volunteers responded to a brush fire alongside neighboring companies, with members stepping up both on the fireground and back at the station.
Among those responding were Nick Holland and his son, Brock, working side-by-side on the incident. Moments like these are a reminder that the fire service is more than responding to emergencies, it’s about family, tradition, and serving the community together across generations.
Brush 1 responded with two of our newer “red shirt” members, Gabe Smith and Adam Cottet, giving them their first exposure to a working brush fire. While crews operated on scene with Rescue Engine 8 and Medic 8-2, additional Company 1 volunteers stayed back at the station helping clean bay floors and preparing for the crews’ return by assisting with truck cleanup.
No matter the role, every member contributes to the success of the department. Great job by everyone involved.
