On Thursday, June 25, a fire was spotted by WC Ranches RFPA members while working cattle, and a possible location was immediately called in.
Firefighters Jesse Gonzales, W***y Helms, and John Nolan Asher quickly identified the fire’s exact location and were on scene within minutes, providing a size-up and initiating the initial attack. The fire was estimated at approximately 20 acres of grass.
Shortly after, Fire Chief Jim Epley and Firefighter Cliff Parke arrived to assist with firefighting operations. Thanks to the rapid response and coordinated efforts, the fire was quickly contained.
Units from ODF and Wheeler County Fire & Rescue then arrived to assist with mop-up.
Outstanding work by all involved. This fast response prevented what could have become a much larger and more damaging fire.
