Last month was our Family Day hosted by the Atherton family at Atherton Lake. This is a time when our families come together with the fire department family and have a good time. We didn't think about going to a meeting or a training or a maintenance or even a call. This is an event started many, many years ago. Kids play, members and spouses join them. And lots of laughing and fun. It’s a time for all to come together and forget we are a fire department for a short time and just have food and fun.
The Fire Service has been considered a second family since its inception. Joining the families together for an event like this helps to strengthen the friendships and bonds that exist. Being a member of a fire department is more than just responding to calls, or training. We are an extended family.
Showing our own families that their support is deeply appreciated is paramount. This appreciation is also a good indicator of the deep commitment members have for the community. Members of our community are encouraged to come be a part of this department family. Be a part of the excitement. Be a part of the service!
A very special thanks goes out to Dewayne Atherton for the great food and fun time!
