South Fork State Recreation Area Nevada

South Fork State Recreation Area Nevada South Fork Reservoir covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow lands and rolling hills.

It is popular for hunting, camping, boating, picnicking, winter sports and wildlife viewing. The park is best known for its trophy-class trout and bass fishery. Facilities include a boat launch, campground, trailer dump station and picnic area. South Fork State Reservoir is located by traveling seven miles south of Elko on State route 227, 5.5 miles south on State route 228, and 3.5 miles southwest on Lower South Fork Road.

🌕 Full Moon Walk – South Fork Meadows & Water Canyon 🌕

Join Nevada Outdoor School for a magical evening under the January full moon! On January 6th at 5:30 PM, both the Elko community and Winnemucca community will head out on their own local Full Moon Walks—Elko in South Fork Meadows and Winnemucca in Water Canyon.

Enjoy a peaceful nighttime stroll as we explore our trails by moonlight, listen for nighttime wildlife, and soak in the quiet beauty of winter under a glowing full moon. These family-friendly walks are perfect for all ages and offer a unique opportunity to experience nature after dark.

Bundle up, bring a flashlight or headlamp (we’ll rely on moonlight as much as possible!), and join us for a serene winter evening on the trail. 🌙✨

Kick off the New Year in the great outdoors! 🌲
Join us for a group hike at the South Fork Meadows on January 1st.
We’ll meet at the Humbolt Trailhead at noon for an easy and scenic 2.8-mile loop.

Due to freezing temperatures, the dock at the main boat ramp will be removed on December 8th for the remainder of the season. Please use extra caution on the lake. We will continue to provide updates on the ice condition as winter progresses.
