Need a New Year’s resolution? Do not flush wipes! Yes, even the ones marketed as “flushable” do not break down in the sewer system. Wipes clump together and create costly problems for the community’s wastewater infrastructure. Help us by trashing those wipes this year!

12/10/2025

Did you know that you need to trash all fats, oils, and grease (FOG) while cooking this holiday season? Pouring FOG down the drain creates issues in pipes and wastewater systems. Pour all FOG into a sealed container and dispose of it in the trash this holiday season!

As some have already notice we have started smoke testing the sanitary sewer collection system.

Our contractor CZ Construction will place a flyer on your mailbox 48hours in advance to notify when they will be working in your area. Please be on the look out for this notice.

The purpose of smoke testing is to locate and identify sources of inflow and infiltration (cracks, breaks or illegal connections of storm drains or gutters) to the sanitary sewer collection system.

The smoke is Non-Toxic harmles smoke!

Please make sure to run water in your sinks, showers, and tubs to make sure the p-traps have water in them. To prevent smoke from entering your house from dried p-traps.

Smoke may still enter the house from failed wax rings for toilets, p-traps, or broken plumbing in the home. Don’t be alarmed open some windows to allow the smoke to escape and note where the smoke came from so you can have it fixed.

If you suspect that the smoke is not from our testing and believe it is a fire please call 911. The Fire Department is aware of our testing.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to call the water office at (281)367-0969 and they can get you in contact with one of our operators.

I have attached a picture from today showing a sample of smoke testing identifying a broken sewer clean out cap.

Have a great rest of the week!

❗️QUESTION❗️

Q: In a recent post you mentioned that there are 29 “lift stations” in The Woodlands. What are lift stations?

A: Great question—and sorry to leave you in the dark on that. Lift stations are a critical part of our wastewater system. Most of the time, gravity does the heavy lifting, carrying wastewater from homes and businesses toward one of our three treatment plants, owned and operated by the San Jacinto River Authority.

But here’s the challenge: gravity requires a steady downhill slope. Over long distances, that slope pushes pipes deeper and deeper into the ground, eventually, reaching a depth that’s impractical to build or maintain.

In steps the lift station - it brings the wastewater back up closer to the surface and reestablishes the grade, allowing gravity to take over again.

👉THE INNER WORKINGS👈

Sensors inside the wet well measure the water level. When the sewage reaches a set height, it triggers the pumps.

Pumps switch on and push the wastewater uphill through force mains (pressurized pipes). Once it’s lifted to a high enough point, gravity carries it downstream through regular sewer pipes.

As the wet well empties, the pumps shut off, ready for the next cycle.

Thank you for the inquiry! 👋

Stay tuned for more H2O info! 💧

Boil water is rescinded!!

Boil Water Notice Rescinded 04/06/25 On 04/05/25, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the Montgomery County WCID #1 public water system, ID # 1700119, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, low pressure, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

The public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of 4/6/25.

If you have questions concerning this matter, you may contact Rick Hughes at 7135535407 or 2813670969.If a customer, individual, or employee wishes to contact the executive director, please call 5122394691

Notice will be sent out shortly to everyone that is registered with our notification system.

Thank you and we are sorry for the inconvenience!

Water pressure is restored!

1. If you are still experiencing no water pressure please check the screens/areators on your faucets and shower heads throughout the house.

2. If you are experiencing just air pressure no water coming out of your faucets please open the outside hose bib to bleed the air out until water is present. If the home is a two story with the same issue above please turn on a bathtub upstairs to bleed the air out. If the air continues for a long period of time please call us and we can flush in the area.

3. If the water is discolored as in a light yellow tinge this is due to the lines being disturbed allowing the iron that is naturally occurring in the drinking water to be suspended this will settle out slowly. If the water is dark red in color please call us so we can flush in your area this is also from the lines being disturbed breaking loose iron rust deposits in the main lines.

Lastly we have collected samples and they are in route to the lab. We are still in a boil water notice until sample results come back clear. This is a state law that if a system drops below 20psi it is an automatic boil water notice and requires samplings of the affected areas.

We will inform everyone via Facebook, signs, and our automated messaging system when the notice is cleared.

We are sorry for the inconvenience and we do not like these events either.

Boil Water Notice 4/5/25

Official Notice Download
Due to a power failure causing system Pressure falling below 20 PSI, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required Montgomery County WC&ID #1 (PWS ID # 1700119) the public water system to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc.). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions.
To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes
When boiling water is no longer necessary, public water system officials notify customers that the water is safe for drinking or human consumption. Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers rescinding it in a manner similar to this notice.
Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.
