Check out the progress on the bike/pedestrian bridge over I-49 at Watkins Ave! This project will connect Randall Tyson Park to the east and Arvest Ballpark/Gene George Blvd. side path to the west, providing Springdale's second major bike/pedestrian crossing over the interstate.

Future plans include a trail extending east from the overpass, tying in the Springdale Recreation Center, Springdale Public Library, and Shiloh Trail as well as providing access to the Razorback Greenway.

Check out the new and improved Razorback Greenway crossing at Johnson Avenue! Several upgrades were implemented at this high-traffic crossing to increase safety and visibility.

Specific treatments include:

Curbed Islands - Raised concrete islands shorten the width of the crosswalk, reducing the amount of time trail users spend in the roadway, as well as slow traffic by narrowing the road on each side of the crossing.

Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) - These signals use proximity detection to light flashing beacons when trail users approach the crossing, alerting drivers to the presence of bikes and pedestrians. Automatic detection allows trail users to continue through the intersection when safe to do so without having to stop to activate the signals with a push button.

High visibility green and white crosswalk markings - Refinished crosswalk markings highlight the crossing and indicate the presence of both cyclists and pedestrians.

Mr. Walker Jr. statues - These high-visibility markers call drivers' attention to the crossing ahead and highlight the presence of pedestrians while remaining low-profile in order to avoid blocking visibility at the crossing.

Crossing treatments like these go a long way in ensuring safety and comfort for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike!

Have you noticed the new signage on The Pride of Springdale Trail?

The goal of these signs is to provide easily-identifiable wayfinding markers for named active transportation routes across the city that display mileages, directional arrows, and recognizable emblems associated with a particular route.

Be on the lookout for more of these as they continue being added to trails across the city!

A huge THANK YOU is in order for our Springdale Parks and Recreation trail crew, who are still hard at work today clearing the Razorback Greenway!

While conditions are significantly improving thanks to plowing efforts, please remain on the lookout for slick spots while the snow persists as melting and refreezing can easily occur as temperatures fluctuate throughout the day. Be safe out there!

Did you know that as of January 2026 Springdale has just over 35 miles of active transportation routes including trails, bike lanes, and shared streets? That means that today an estimated 72.9% of the city's population lives within half a mile of the active transportation network.

With many more projects in the works, leveraging funds from the 2023 Bond Program, state and federal grants, and dedicated trail construction funding, Springdale is making some great strides toward the goal of 100% connectivity in the coming years!
