Tax cuts sound like a win for everyone. But the math tells a different story.
In Arkansas, the top 20% of earners will receive 80% of the proposed tax cut benefit. That’s not broad relief, it’s concentrated gain. Meanwhile, Supported Living services remain in crisis for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
A state-mandated study found reimbursement rates are 23% below the actual cost of care. And then we ask why turnover is skyrocketing, providers can’t hire or retain staff, and critical supports are at a breaking point. These outcomes aren’t surprising, they’re the result of policy choices.
If we want strong communities, we have to fund the services that make community living possible. The Legislature convenes this Monday, May 4. Call your state representatives and senators now at the capitol and leave a message asking them to vote NO on tax cuts until Act 1023 is funded. (You will not speak to your elected officials directly, you are just leaving a message for them, which they will receive on a pink slip in their chamber. Let's send ALL the pink slips)!
