One of the hidden heartbreaks of foster care is how hard it can become for kids to experience “normal” childhood experiences.

Because how can you join a baseball team when you’re only in a foster home for three weeks? How do you stay on the debate team when you suddenly had to move 5 hours away? How do you go to homecoming when you don’t know anyone at your new school?

Foster care is hard enough. CASA volunteers make it a little easier by filling in gaps and solving problems.

At the end of her junior year of high school, “P” had been looking forward to a trip with her school’s orchestra. Her removal from home and placement in foster care could have made that trip impossible. But P’s CASA team knew they could solve this problem, and they worked with the school to pay for the trip so P could go.

What an incredible turnout at our Older Youth Resource Fair! 🎉

We had 15 youth and 5 caring adults connect with 9 amazing community partners who came out to share resources, answer questions, and remind our older youth in foster care that they don't have to navigate this journey alone.

Huge thanks to Youth Villages, Engaging Arkansas, DHS, Teen Action & Support Center, Fayetteville Public Library, New Beginning Youth Homes, Immerse, NWA Center for Sexual Assault, and Ozark Regional Transit for showing up for our kids!

Events like this help our older youth build the skills, connections, and confidence they need as they transition into adulthood. We're so grateful for a community that shows up. 💙

Did you know DHS caseworkers are some of our biggest partners in this work? 💙

The Arkansas Department of Human Services (DCFS) is hiring Social Services Specialists and Social Services Assistants right here in Northwest Arkansas! These are the folks who investigate reports of abuse and neglect, manage foster care cases, support reunification, and walk alongside families during some of their hardest moments.

When DHS is fully staffed, caseworkers can spend more time devoted to the children and families, which means faster decisions, more consistent support, and better outcomes for the kids we all serve together. Our CASA volunteers work hand-in-hand with these caseworkers every day, and strong staffing on their side makes all of our work stronger.

If you (or someone you know) has a heart for helping children and families, search "Social Services Specialist" or "Social Services Assistant" at arcareers.arkansas.gov to learn more and apply — openings are in Bentonville and Fayetteville.

Today is National Dog Day, and we couldn't resist bragging on the real MVPs of the CASA of NWA office: our staff's dogs. They don't do timesheets, but they show up with a whole lot of good energy every day.
