We just hit 50 energy efficiency projects approved since the May 1st start of the fiscal year!

Applicants for the approved projects are slated to receive a total of $661,500 in incentives and are estimated to reduce their electric consumption by a combined 2 million kilowatt hours anually.

IMEA's Energy Efficiency Program makes a real impact by reducing energy consumption and electric bills in our 32 member communities.

IMUA presented its final 2026 IMUA Scholarship essay competition award in Breese, Illinois last night.

Caden Klay was one of four winners chosen from more than 60 applicants for this year’s scholarship. He is seen here holding the IMUA certificate and scholarship checks (one from IMUA and a match check from the city) that he received last night at Breese's City Council meeting. Mayor Timmerman (left) and Caden’s parents (right) also joined IMUA at the presentation.

We wish Caden all the best in his journey to become a physical therapist!

Congratulations to recent Freeburg Community High School graduate Grace Huddleston! 🎉 Grace won the 2026 Illinois Municipal Utilities Association (IMUA) Scholarship essay competition this year. She is one of four to win from over 70 applications received.

Great job and best of luck at Saint Louis University this fall!

Under its annual scholarship program, the Illinois Municipal Utilities Association (IMUA) awarded 4 high school seniors $1,000 to be used for tuition or other education expenses this year.

Two of the four winners are from Springfield!
🎉Congratulations to Gavin Fay and Tom Humphrey, both recent graduates of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School.

Graduating high school seniors whose households are served by City Water, Light and Power (CWLP) were eligible to apply because the utility is a member of IMUA, an association comprised of nearly 50 utilities throughout the state who own and operation their electric systems.

Congratulations to the City of Geneseo, City of Geneva, City of Princeton, City of Rochelle, City of Rock Falls and Village of Winnetka!

Their electric utilities placed in the top 25 percentile of reliability nationwide, as measured against the U.S. Energy Information Administration's (EIA) data and were recognized with an Excellence in Reliability Award at this year’s Annual Conference and Trade Show.

The City of Waterloo’s electric utility was awarded our 2026 System Achievement Award in recognition of its utility employees’ exemplary skills, dedication, and vision in meeting the electrical demands of their growing city.

They have strengthened their utility by adding a dual-fueled combustion package with a 13.2 kV generator for the city’s Combustion Turbine No. 3 project. The city has also replaced aging underground wires and implemented other electrical system upgrades to improve system reliability.

The City of Waterloo accepted the System Achievement Award from IMEA/IMUA/IPEA President and CEO Doug Brown at the association’s Annual Conference and Trade Show.

This visit is a prime example of what public power is all about—municipally-owned electric utilities coming together, sharing knowledge.

Both communities, the Village of Winnetka and the City of Waterloo, are members of our agency, as well as our statewide trade association, IMUA. They are from different parts of the state but through our agency and association, they’ve forged friendships and stand in support of each other.

Do you know a high school senior who could use $1,000 for college or trade school? The Illinois Municipal Utilities Association (IMUA), our statewide trade association, is now accepting applications and essays for a chance of winning one of four $1,000 IMUA Scholarship awards.

High school seniors whose parents or legal guardians are residential customers of an IMUA member utility are eligible. Visit www.imea.org/IMUAscholarship.html for a map of IMUA member municipalities and for scholarship details.

Our Energy Efficiency and Conservation Committee (E2C2) met this morning to review the performance of two programs, the Energy Efficiency Program and the Electric Vehicle Charging Station and Electric Vehicle Program. Staff also presented findings on new technology and reviewed pilot programs for the committee to consider.

IMEA has robust incentive measures to conserve electricity and cut costs for consumers, and we’re always striving to find new measures to accomplish this in a more efficient and cost-effective way.
