Happy Thanksgiving to all our National Sojourners, Heroes, and their families!

As we celebrate today, we reflect on the origins of this uniquely American holiday. The tradition of a national day of thanks began with our nation's first Commander-in-Chief, Brother George Washington.

In his 1789 Proclamation (a detail of which is pictured), Washington called for the country to offer gratitude for the "opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness."

We are eternally grateful for the service and sacrifice of all who defend the blessings Washington first sought to honor.
