On behalf of State Senator Adam Gomez, we offer our sincerest condolences to Police Chief Daniel Spellacy and his family. Thank you to for your service to the City of Springfield.

On behalf of the Springfield Police Department, Superintendent Lawrence E. Akers offers his condolences to the family and friends of retired Acting Police Chief Daniel Spellacy, who passed away at the age of 91 last week.

Superintendent Akers stated, "It is with heartfelt sadness that I learned of the passing of former Acting Chief Daniel Spellacy. He was a true leader who served this department with dignity, pride, and a deep commitment to the profession. He also had a wonderful sense of humor and never missed an opportunity to make you laugh, all while keeping that ever-present toothpick in the corner of his mouth.

In 1987, he gave me my first opportunity by requesting my transfer to the Narcotics Bureau, where I would spend the next five years of my career. He was a firm but fair leader, and those are qualities I have always tried to emulate throughout my own career. I will always be grateful for the opportunity he gave me and the example he set.

It is with great sorrow that I bid farewell to our brother in arms, a respected leader, and a good friend. Chief Spellacy, I now render my final salute to a good man and a great police officer. May you rest in peace. You will not be forgotten."

Calling hours will be held Sunday October 25th at Byron Keenan Funeral Home at 1858 Allen Street.

The funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, on Monday October 26th at 11:00 a.m.

Exciting news for our community! in Springfield has been awarded $210,000 through the Social Enterprise Capital Grant Program to renovate and modernize its multi‑building facility on School Street. This critical funding will strengthen violence prevention, behavioral health, and economic mobility services for more than 100 young people each day.

My sincerest condolences to our Chicopee Community on the loss of Coach Dan Dulchinos.

It is with great sadness that I extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, former players, colleagues, and countless members of the Chicopee community who are mourning the loss of Coach Dan Dulchinos.

For 50 years, Coach Dulchinos was a tremendous presence at Chicopee Comprehensive High School, beginning when the school first opened its doors in 1962. His impact went far beyond the baseball diamond. As a coach, teacher, guidance counselor, and athletic director, he dedicated his life to helping generations of Chicopee students learn, grow, compete, and succeed.

His record speaks to an extraordinary career, with more than 600 victories, four Western Massachusetts titles, and a state championship. His accomplishments earned him well-deserved recognition in the Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame, the Western Massachusetts Baseball Hall of Fame, and the Chicopee Athletic Hall of Fame.

But Coach Dulchinos' greatest legacy cannot be measured in wins or championships. It lives on in the lives of the young people he coached and mentored and in the many families and members of our community who were fortunate to know him.

The naming of Dulchinos Field at Rivers Park in 1994 was a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much to Chicopee. As that field continues to serve our young athletes, his name and legacy will continue to be part of our community for generations to come.

On behalf of the City of Chicopee, I offer my heartfelt sympathy to the Dulchinos family during this difficult time. May they find comfort in knowing how deeply Dan was respected, admired, and loved by the people whose lives he touched.

Rest in peace, Coach. Your legacy will always have a home here in Chicopee.
