Today, the Springfield Armory held a ribbon cutting ceremony, where Mayor Sarno, Congressman Neal, Senator Oliveira, and my District Director, Mari, celebrated the unveiling of a new ADA ramp that will offer families and those that require additional mobility assistance the chance to behold an important piece of our American history. The Springfield isn’t just a historic site—it’s a part of who we are as a city. For nearly 200 years, the Armory helped shape America, with manufacturing and innovation right here in Springfield. It produced weapons for our nation and became a symbol of the skill and ingenuity of the people who called this city home. Today, that legacy remains an important part of Springfield’s identity and something we can all take pride in.

India celebrated its 80th Independence Day on August 15. Here in Chicopee, the local delegation, as well as Mayor Vieau and Congressman Neal, and our Chicopee City Council, joined our local Indian-American community to bring a slice of that celebration home. That’s what our neighbors who found roots here call Chicopee, Western Mass, and the rest of America: Home. Over 200 years of British colonial rule ended in 1947 after the sacrifices of the Indian fighters who dreamed and achieved of a free democratic nation, and we keep that spirit alive remembering a milestone of freedom. Jai Hind!
