The Battle of the Bases is a military softball tournament that is presented by the Washington Nationals, and it is an extension of the intramural seasons held at each base across the National Capital Region. Active Duty Service Members from all six branches participated in the preliminary tournament in August. These games determined which teams would play in the Championship game – under the lights at Nationals Park.

Fort Belvoir competed against 17 other teams this past weekend and went undefeated to earn the number 1 seed entering the championship game, held on 9 September 2023 at National’s Stadium in Washington D.C.

The Fort Belvoir Softball Team was victorious during the Battle of the Bases Championship this weekend, with an overall 17-7 win against the team from Joint Base Andrews. AGB’s very own CW2 Steven O’Neill played first base for the team and going 3-3 at the plate for the day with a triple, double and a walk during the Championship game!

Congratulations to the Fort Belvoir Softball team on your HUGE accomplishment and a job well done to CW2 O'Neill!!

The U.S. Congress established Days of Remembrance as the nation's annual commemoration of the Holocaust.

Public Law 96-388 established the United States Holocaust Memorial Council and authorizes the actions of the council. Each year the President of the United States also issues a Presidential Proclamation for the observance.

The dates for Days of Remembrance and Holocaust Remembrance Day vary each year according to the Hebrew calendar.

This year's Days of Remembrance is April 16-23, 2023.

Members from the AGB will pay tribute to the Days of Remembrance with an incredible trip to the National Museum of American Jewish Military History in Washington D.C on April 25, 2023. https://nmajmh.org/

On March 19, 2023, thousands of people took part in the 34th annual Bataan Memorial Death March on Sunday morning. More than 4,000 people gathered to make the 26.2-mile trek across the White Sands Missile Range.

Today we recognize one of AGB's very own, CSM Ventura, who placed her personal commitment to excellence and accomplishment of the mission to the test during this year's Battan Death March. CSM Ventura endured and accomplished a remarkable feat while also honoring the memory and sacrifice of all those who inspire so many. The Warrior Ethos states, " I will always place the mission first, I will never accept defeat, I will never quit, I will never leave a fallen comrade." Congratulations, CSM Ventura, on your outstanding achievement!

A brief background on the Bataan Death March:
The Bataan Death March is a challenging march through the high desert terrain of the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. The memorial is a tribute to the World War II veterans who were forced to march 65 miles through the Bataan Peninsula of the Philippine Islands in 1942. The soldiers were forced to walk while deprived of food, water, and medical attention – resulting in around 10,000 Filipino and American deaths. 01/16/2023

Just weeks before his assassination, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. visited the island of Bimini, Bahamas. It was here that he wrote his famous, I’ve been to the Mountaintop speech. During this period, observers mentioned Dr. King was very solemn and thoughtful, as if he had the foresight of things soon to come.

The 2023Department of Defense’s MLK poster has a white background. Superimposed upon the white background is a full-length color filled outline of Dr. King. Dr. King is facing to the viewer’s left with his right arm raised as if waving to the crowd. The top third of the outline is colored light sky blue with white whisps replicating clouds. Several fine black lines outline the clouds and give them shape. Beneath the clouds another set of black lines give the appearance of the ocean with an island in the distance. The distant island and ocean are given a slightly darker blue color.

The middle third of Dr.King’s outline contains a light green color. Light gray lines on the left side of the outline highlight the faint green leaves and roots of mangrove plants in the background. The mangrove tree is representative of the island culture. At the right side of Dr. King’s outline is a prominent image of a mangrove tree in the forefront with multiple, clearly defined dark green leaves and dark gray roots. This plant extends down into the bottom third of Dr. King’s outline. A single orange-brown leaf is on the mangrove.

The bottom third of the MLK outline is colored teal blue and gray and depicts the shallow tropical island water. Light and dark gray splotches give the appearance of stones and coral in the water. The stem and roots of the prominent mangrove tree extend down into the water.

Spreading across the bottom third of the poster are five dark curving and crossing lines giving the appearance of waves.

On the left side of the poster and to the left of Dr. King’s colored outlined image are three paragraphs in green font. Each paragraph has a header in capitalized green font.

Thefirst header and paragraph read, REMEMBER! In Bimini,Bahamas, King wrote one of his most inspiring speeches, “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop.” It was delivered a few weeks later in Memphis, Tennessee, one day before King was assassinated on April 4, 1968.

The second header and paragraph read, CELEBRATE! “And I’ve looked over, and I’ve seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land.”

The third header and paragraph read, ACT! A Day On, Not a Day Off!

Beneath the three paragraphs is animage of a bronze statueof MLK’s torso, which was placed in Bimini to commemorate his visit.

Beneath the bronzeimage is the observance title in black, capitalized font, MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY. Below the title is the observance date in smaller, black, capitalized font, JANUARY 16, 2023.

At the poster’s bottom left corner are the seals for the Department of Defense and the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI). To the right of the seals is a blue gray symbol depicting a microphone. To the right of the microphone is a quick response code (QRC) which when scanned with a mobile device will open an audio narration with this poster description. At the poster’s right is a second QRC which directs an individual to DEOMI’s website, www.defenseculture.mil.

81 years ago today, at 7:48am, 353 Imperial Japanese aircraft launched a devastating attack on the naval base at Pearl Harbor. The resulting loss of over 2000 American lives took the United States out of its neutral status, and sparked the country's transformation into a key player in World War II. We at the US Army Field Band hope you will join us in honoring and reflecting upon the lives lost that winter morning, as well as upon the indomitable spirit demonstrated by Americans moving forward.

"October is National Filipino American History Month. It’s all about celebrating the history, heritage, culture and achievements of Filipino Americans.

The celebration of Filipino American History Month in October each year is significant. It commemorates the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the continental United States.

Today, more than 4 million Filipinos live in the U.S., according to a report from the Pew Research Center. It shows Filipino Americans are the second-largest Asian American group in the nation and the third-largest ethnic group in California after Latinos and African Americans."
