The results are in, and they are incredible. Our community helped raise $296,768 for the Weekend Backpack Program during Hunger Action Month this September! That will provide meals for 825 children in southwest Missouri every weekend of the school year!

We have so many people to thank:

🏦 Special thank you to Central Bank who was our presenting sponsor for Hunger Action Month and held fundraisers at their local branches.
🥫 Local businesses and organizations got involved by holding food drives, special promotions, and selling featured food items to raise food & funds for Ozarks Food Harvest.
📻 Zimmer radio listeners helped sponsor more than 700 local children in the Weekend Backpack Program during Hungerthon.
🍊 Businesses donated auction items for the Go Orange Auction, and bidders helped raise thousands of dollars for the Weekend Backpack Program.
🥣 Artists donated handmade bowls to our Empty Bowls fundraiser, sponsored by Holmes and Griffeth Financial Planners, and shoppers got to take home a feel-good keepsake knowing they helped feed kids across the Ozarks.

To everyone who donated, created, volunteered, raised meals, and spread the word... THANK YOU! Ending hunger takes all of us. Your support this September means families and kids across southwest Missouri will have the food they need and deserve to thrive.

🎃 It's the spookiest of months, which means it's time to Scare Away Hunger! When you volunteer with us during October, you'll see this food collection bin in our volunteer check-in room 👀 We're challenging our volunteers to bring nonperishable food items for donation this month to help folks facing hunger access food as the weather turns colder.

We might be scaring away hunger, but it's not scary to sign up to volunteer. All you need to do is visit ozarksfoodharvest.org/volunteer and submit an application. After your application is approved, simply click "Schedule a Session" and choose the session that works for you! If you're a returning volunteer... well, you know what to do.

💝 Hi, community. It's that time of year again when Ozarks Food Harvest starts preparing for the holiday season, and we need your help. We believe everyone deserves to celebrate the holidays with a comforting meal. But with food prices up 20% in recent years and fuel costs rising, we're seeing more folks worry about how they'll put food on the table on a normal week night, much less a holiday meal. We want to help southwest Missouri families put a holiday meal on the table.

This year we need to purchase 7,550 turkeys and hams, as well as sides like potatoes, vegetables, pie filling and more to help families facing hunger celebrate the season. Here's how your gift can help:

🦃 $20 provides a turkey or ham
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 $40 provides a holiday meal for a family
🎁 $80 provides a turkey and all the trimmings for two families
🍽️ $160 provides multiple meals to help our neighbors get through the season

It might seem early, but now is when The Food Bank needs to buy these special food items to get them to our neighbors in time for the holidays. In our community, 1 in 4 children and 1 in 5 adults face hunger. Let's help make the holidays a little more cheerful when times are tough.

Dillon is here to tell you that we're in need of volunteers for our weekday volunteer sessions, particularly in the afternoons.

Weekday afternoons are our least attended times as people head back to work or school. We need folks to help us keep donated food moving through The Food Bank and into the hands of our neighbors facing hunger.

By volunteering on the weekdays, you help us keep our neighbors safe by checking donated items for food safety guidelines.

For National Farmers Day, we want to tell you a bit about how local farmers help end hunger in southwest Missouri.

Farmers already work early mornings and long days to grow the food we eat every day, but they also have a heart for giving back. Ozarks Food Harvest partners with more than 50 local farms and gardens, like Family Through Faith, who donate fruits and vegetables for our neighbors facing hunger.

When these partner farms grow too much produce or don't have the hands to harvest all of their crops, that food doesn't go to waste. The farmers contact Ozarks Food Harvest, who sends volunteers to glean the produce and deliver it directly to our partner charities in southwest Missouri. Many farmers designate a row of crops specifically for Ozarks Food Harvest at the beginning of the season.

We also partner with the Greater Springfield Farmers Market to collect excess produce from vendors at the market.

Last fiscal year, all of our partner farms and farmers market vendors donated a total of 87,000 pounds of fresh produce to help end hunger in the Ozarks! That produce meant seniors had nutritious greens on their plates, kids could try new vegetables, and families had well-rounded meals during tough times.

A huge thank you to Family Through Faith, Fassnight Creek Farm, Temple Israel, Victory Garden, the Greater Springfield Farmers' Market, and so many more who help our neighbors facing hunger access fresh produce.

Need a little help with food? We're holding another free grocery distribution for Greene County residents at Ozarks Food Harvest this Saturday, October 17, 9:30-11:00 a.m. Sign-up is open now. To help with the flow of traffic, we've added time slots to the registration form. Please pre-register for the event and arrive during the time slot you choose on the registration form.

In the event of extreme weather, keep an eye on our social media for any cancelations or rescheduling.

This grocery distribution is for Greene County residents who meet the income guidelines noted in the registration form. Sign up at https://forms.gle/Axq2SrHtcfGxUBqx7.

Drive up, stay in your car, and a volunteer or staff member will handle the rest! Please make sure your trunk is clean and clear so we can load up the produce, dairy, bakery items and more.

If you're a donor to nonprofits, you need to know about DAF's. Especially because today is National DAF Day!

DAF stands for Donor Advised Fund. It's a charitable investment account that allows you, the donor, to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax deduction, and recommend grants from the fund over time. You can contribute to the fund as often as you would like and recommend grants to your favorite charities whenever makes sense for you.

Ozarks Food Harvest is qualified to receive gifts from DAF's, which means you can give to The Food Bank from your DAF any time to help end hunger for folks across southwest Missouri. To give to Ozarks Food Harvest from your DAF, visit ozarksfoodharvest.org/donate-money and scroll down to "Donor Advised Funds." Or, call Cassie Hanson at 417-865-3411 if you have questions.

As we see more of our neighbors turn to charitable food assistance for groceries, we want to thank the Bobby Allison Fund for their generous gift of $50,000 to help us feed more of our neighbors facing hunger.

This grant will help us continue to serve our neighbors without interruption. It will also help us continue to deliver food to our partner charities at no extra charge.
