Construction is progressing at Illinois Beach State Park. The Breakwaters in Area-1 of the project are complete. Over 200,000 cubic yards of sand have also been placed in Area-1. The barges have steamed down to Project Area-3. Construction of the breakwaters in Area-3 is underway.

You may have heard the chimes coming from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Altgeld Hall, but have you ever seen them? 🔔

The historic campus landmark is receiving extensive repairs to the bell tower and stone veneer, ensuring the surrounding community can enjoy the Altgeld chimes for years to come!

The Illinois Capital Development Board is in Phase 2 of construction at UIUC. Altgeld Hall will receive new accessibility features, classrooms, tutoring spaces, a new research space for the Illinois Geometry Lab and Illinois Risk Lab, and a full restoration of the building’s original murals.

CDB concluded construction at Chippewa in August 2022 and are thrilled to see the site opened for visitors!

Exciting news, campers! The long-closed Chippewa campground at Kankakee River State Park will reopen to visitors on Monday, Aug. 28.

The campground is located on Illinois 102 about 2 miles west of the Kankakee River State Park main office. It has 98 total campsites, which are available by reservation only. Reservations can be made at https://exploremoreil.com.

IDNR is seeking a campground host for the site. Anyone interested can call the park office at 815-933-1383 or email the site superintendent at [email protected].

At Last!! After years of obstacles I'm happy to announce the reopening of the Chippewa Campground at the Kankakee River State Park. We still need campground hosts at this location, so registration will be online. Maybe wait until the 110° heat index subsides! Don't forget to stop by the Capital Development Board booth at the Illinois State Fair! Visitors will receive a CDB hard hat and take a turn sitting in the excavator!

After visiting the booth, check out the many capital improvements CDB has been working on this year at the fairgrounds. The Coliseum boasts brand new seating, LED lighting, and heating and cooling. The Multi-Purpose Arena is receiving structural repairs, new retaining walls, and upgrades to the plumbing and electrical. Temperature controls were updated to digital in the IDOA Building and a retaining wall was repaired at the Junior Department Livestock Building. Many sidewalks and roadways, most notably near 8th Street, have also been replaced.

This multi-year plan to preserve historic structures will ensure visitors can enjoy the Illinois State Fair for years to come! 🎡

The Capital Development Board and Illinois State University hosted an outreach event on July 13 at the ISU Center for Performing Arts. The pre-bid informational session provided the opportunity for qualified firms to learn more about construction opportunities for the Wonsook Fine Arts Complex Project.

The project includes renovating and constructing buildings involved in the Wonsook Kim Fine Arts Complex. The new complex will involve three buildings: Centennial East and West, and the Center for Visual Arts. The work will be done in multiple phases.

It’s been nearly 10 months since crews first began construction on Western Illinois University’s new Center for Performing Arts, and about nine months since Gov. J.B. Pritzker visited campus for a formal groundbreaking.
