🚗 Myth: Washing your car at home will save water.

Fact: Washing your car with a garden hose and spray nozzle can use 30–60 gallons of water. A modern commercial car wash may use just 15–30 gallons because it recycles some of its water.

City Utilities is starting a new Income-Eligible Toilet Replacement Program to help qualifying water customers replace old, inefficient toilets with new WaterSense toilets — completely free.

About 2,700 customers may qualify. City Utilities will reach out to you with more information about the program and how to take part if you're eligible.

A new, efficient toilet can save a typical household about 10,000 gallons of water each year.

Nearly 100 years ago, a 24-inch cast iron water main was installed along Kansas Expressway. It helped move water farther south from the Fulbright Water Treatment Plant.

Parts of this old water main are still in place today as part of Springfield’s water system. The steel used before World War II was known for its strength. While our water system has continued to grow and be upgraded over the years, a little piece of Springfield’s water history is still underground! 💧

Fact: If you’re using incandescent or CFL bulbs, they release much of the heat they produce into your home. LED bulbs produce much less heat, making them a more energy-efficient option.
