🚧 Our Operations street maintenance team has been out crack sealing several of Springfield’s busier streets!

Recently, the crew sealed cracks on Pioneer Parkway West, south of the Hayden Bridge Way roundabout, and 42nd Street, north of the Jasper Road roundabout.

The process starts with cleaning debris out of the cracks using high-pressure air, followed by filling them with a rubberized asphalt sealant.

Crack sealing helps keep water out of the pavement, slowing deterioration and helping prevent small cracks from turning into bigger, more expensive problems. It’s one of the tools our Operations crew uses to maintain Springfield’s streets, extend pavement life and make the most of our street maintenance dollars.

A little preventative maintenance now can help avoid more costly repairs down the road!

💧 We’re at Clean Water University! 🎓

This week, more than 800 fifth-graders from 14 Springfield and Eugene schools are taking part in Clean Water University, hosted by the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission. As part of their STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education, students are learning about water in our area. Through eight hands-on activities and a tour of the Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility, they’re exploring how drinking water gets to their homes, what happens to wastewater after it goes down the drain, and how stormwater works.

To run the activities, Springfield staff are teaming up with water professionals from the City of Eugene Government, Lane County Government, Springfield Utility Board, Rainbow Water District, Eugene Water & Electric Board, and other local partners.

We love seeing students light up as they discover how our local water systems work! 💡🎉

It’s time to start bagging those leaves for Springfield’s free bagged leaf pickup program. Pickup happens in two rounds:

Round one begins:
🍁 Starting November 30: West of 28th/31st Street
🍁 Starting December 7: East of 28th/31st Street

Today, we recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

We acknowledge that Springfield shares its history with many Indigenous peoples, including the Kalapuya people and those who first inhabited the land where our community is located. For generations the Kalapuya have stewarded this land between two rivers.

Today is an opportunity to recognize and honor the histories, cultures and enduring contributions of Indigenous peoples. We express our respect for all Indigenous peoples who call Oregon home.

Mayor Sean VanGordon has proclaimed the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Springfield.

We invite our community to read the proclamation and reflect on the significance of this day.

Grab your costumes and join us at Springfield City Hall from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for a free afternoon of Halloween fun.
