O Negative blood is needed because it is the universal blood type and can be used to support patients with any blood type. When there's no time to type a patient's blood, O negative blood is used to save their lives.

Today GSVFD was happy to deliver the teddy bears made and provided by the Springfield Quilters Club to the the folks at Fairfax DVAC. The bears will help provide comfort and real hugs for children in need during difficult times as they navigate thru family services programs.

On Day 6 of with Hilton Springfield, VA and the , Tamisha and Tiffany took the time to some by visiting the most important members of our community- our ! We greatly all of the men, women and volunteers at the Fairfax County Police Department and the Greater Springfield Volunteer Fire Department!
A little closeup of our new Quick Response Canteen (CAN422B). It’s a2022 Ford F-250 4WD with 4000 watt power supply, onboard 120volt power, Keurig K-Cup dual brewers, hydration and food items to maintain firefighter nutrition and health. (Boss V-Plow not currently installed but ready for any weather response)
This unit serves as a Multi-Role Utility (MRU) as a Plow, special event standby support, command unit, utility and community outreach support. Condensing multiple roles and vehicles into one vehicle. No tax payer funds were used on this project.

Springfield station 22 and multiple other units along with Fairfax1 helicopter responded to a house fire this morning on Abilene St.
This was the first response for ’s new Quick Response Canteen (aka CAN422B) helping to provide rehydration and nutritional snacks for fire crews.

Yesterday’s crew deserves some kudos on some big calls last shift. They also had a challenging EKG monitor malfunctioning. The crew was able to quickly troubleshoot and find that the patients dry skin was prohibiting the leads to capture data, which is abnormal considering it’s usually the opposite that makes it hard to read. Great job on troubleshooting with station 405 and quickly figuring out what needed to be done to continue the assessment.

Part of this training requires drivers to pass the Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) to ensure they learn the skills necessary to maneuver large vehicles in a safe and skilled manor.
