I adopted Jazzabelle aka jelly bean from scac November 23, 2013. We had to let her go October 26, 2022 she had a perianal adenoma and because of the placement and her age it was inoperable. I thought you might like to see her wonderful life.
We had to say goodbye to Jazzabelle on October 26, 2022. This video is in remembrance of her amazing spirit!
ADOPTED: Scout is a one year old boy that arrived at SCAC on 03/01 as a stray. He is listed as an Akita mix but that is open to question. One thing we do know is that Scout is very handsome. Those of us who have worked with Scout like him very much. He is a big, pretty easy going guy. Today this gentleman spent a bunch of time meeting and learning about Scout and how best to work with him at home. These two guys seem like they are a very good match. Thanks for adopting Scout and have a wonderful time with your big puppy.
ADOPTED: Nova is a 14 month old GSD mix that arrived at SCAC on 02/23 as a stray. Very high energy coming out of the kennel but she will settle down and walk on leash nicely. This girl also loves to play with the toys in the play yards. She really can entertain herself. Nova is also wicked smart. Today this father and daughter came in with a list of dogs they wished to meet and have meet their dog. Nova was the first selection and we never got to the next dog. They really liked Nova. Many thanks for adopting at SCAC and getting Nova out of kennel life. Have fun with your new girl and remember patience is a virtue.
ADOPTED: This very handsome two year old boy is Jethro. He came to SCAC on 01/27 as a stray. Jethro is listed as a Bluetick/Beagle hound mix. This boy is very lively, loves to be outside for his walks and makes friends very easily. This nice couple came in to specifically meet Jethro. They really liked everything about him. We can't thank these adopters enough for getting Jethro out of kennel life after all of these weeks. Have fun with your hound-dog!

ADOPTED: Ruby is a 15 month old pit mix that was owner surrendered on 01/17. She is very friendly, house trained, crate trained, loves car rides, can sit, shake and give high fives. Sounds like a wonderful girl. Her only downfall is that she is not real good on leash. Despite that an adopter fell in love with Ruby today and tonight she is in a loving new home. Many thanks to the adopter for giving Ruby another chance at happiness.
ADOPTED: This very pretty pit mix puppy is 7 month old Emerald. She came to SCAC on 01/20 as a stray. We are continually amazed at how people can throw away dogs but especially puppies. This little girl is friendly, playful and very smart. Today she officially started her new life with two siblings that will show her the ropes. Many thanks to the adopters for giving Emerald this chance at a loving home.
ADOPTED:. Katara is a lovely 3 year old tabby. She came to Animal Control as an owner surrender on March 1st. She is very timid initially, but it is quick to warm up to people paying attention to her. We did not get to meet her new family, but we congratulate them on their excellent taste in kitties

FLASH---Even though I am eight years old I still have a lot of energy. Once I get outside Im so excited to take a walk with you. Flash is a bit overweight but he gets around just fine. He's a sweet boy.

All three of our seniors came in due to neglect...now they just live day after day in a stressful shelter environment...
If we all work together the caring people of Sangamon county can help our senior dogs... We can't just leave them sitting in those kennels never knowing love or the comfort of a good home.

A senior dog has lived in a small kennel for 5 months...She needs your help.
Bailey is just a big sweet goofy girl that loves people and loves attention. She is happy to just hang out and get attention but she also likes to run around and chase the ball in the play yard with periodic breaks for love and scratches.
Even though Bailey is a stunning looking lady she is bypassed in her kennel because she is so excited when people come through that she is quite literally bouncing off the walls. Not a good look but all she wants is to get out of the kennel and spend some time with you.
She knows sit and maybe down..She really is a very nice girl.
I always wish someone will ask to see her and we can all go out to the play yard for a visit.... This is my wish everyday for Bailey...

ADOPTED: Gunner is a 3 year old pittie (mix) that came to SCAC on 01/10 as a stray. We have grown to like this boy very much. He loves spending time with people and is a pleasure to spend time with outside, he loves his walks. Today this family met Gunner and thought he would be a great addition to the family. We can't disagree with that decision. Many thanks for adopting at SCAC and have a great time with Gunner.
ADOPTED: Jojo is a very sweet 4 month old kitten that came to SCAC on 03/06 as a stray. At first she was pretty frightened and a little "hissy". After one of our experienced volunteers started scratching her ears Jojo became pretty friendly. Today this family, there is a mom and little brother, came in and met Jojo. Lets just say that one particular member of the family fell in love big time. Tonight Jojo has a loving new family and a sister that is just too cute for words. Many thanks to this family for giving Jojo a loving new home.
ADOPTED: Diva is a two year old pittie mix that came to SCAC on 01/24 as a stray. Diva is a really good girl in the right settings. She absolutely loves people but is selective with other dogs. We have enjoyed spending time with this pretty girl. Today a family met Diva and thought she was wonderful. There was a lot of love going around. Many thanks to the family for adopting Diva at SCAC.
ADOPTED: Sonny is six months old and came to SCAC on 03/06 as a stray. He is listed as an Aussie/Akita mix. Not sure about that but he is a wonderful pup. This little guy really enjoys spending time outside and just loves to cuddle and be close to whomever he is with. Sonny is definitely a lap dog. When this lady met Sonny she just knew he was going to be the perfect companion. Have a great life with Sonny sitting in you lap. Please send updates and many thanks for adopting at SCAC.
ADOPTED: China is a 1 year old Sharpei mix that came to SCAC on 02/28 as a stray. She is remarkable in that she looks just like a Sharpei but has no wrinkles and is small. China has a wonderful loving personality. When these nice people met China the other day the fell in love. Today was "Gotcha Day" and all of us were very happy that China had a very short stay. Have fun with your new girl and thanks for coming to SCAC to adopt.
ADOPTED: Oreo is a 2 year old, gorgeous tuxie girl with medium length, irresistibly soft black and white fur, and lovely eyes. She arrived at SCAC on February 20 via owner surrender through no fault of her own. Oreo is friendly, affectionate, and playful, and is always the best dressed girl in the room. Today this lady met Oreo and fell in love with her personality. As an addition Oreo looks very similar to a past companion. Tonight Oreo has a new home and we hope these two will have a very long and loving relationship.

shar-peis are alert, intelligent and protective dogs.
They possess a calm and devoted nature that makes them loyal, loving companions with their family..
They are loyal and affectionate with their own people and love to spend time with the family.
They are aloof and weary of strangers-
They do not do well with other dogs.
They do better in an adult only home‼️
Shar-peis are laid-back.
Says Usually low-energy dogs-However
Some may require more exercise than others.
Not the dog for first time dog owners.
Best in a home with knowledge of the breed.

ADOPTED: This very handsome boy is five year old Creed. He came to SCAC on 02/15 as a stray. He is listed as an Am Staffie but some of us believe him to be an American Bully due to his unique tri-coloring. Anyway he is a big dog in a short package. Creed is very friendly with everyone he meets. He is just a great dog. This nice lady, who has adopted from us before, and her dad decided that Creed would be a great family addition. She was the lucky one who got to pick up Creed today. We hope Creed is indeed a great addition to the family and many thanks for adopting this boy at SCAC.

Bow still loves riding shotgun and now is into baseball games. He’s staying active!
Bow is a wonderful dog who had been at SCAC for several months and was starting to shut down.
This family gave him a chance, and look at him now! We cannot thank you enough!
ADOPTED: St Patrick's Day was topped off with one of our cutest adoptions ever. Peanut Butter came to SCAC as a 12 week old owner surrender very recently. All of us fell in love with this cute little boy right away. Peanut Butter seems to be happiest when he is in constant contact with a human. It certainly looks like this tiny girl and this little puppy are going to be close friends for a long time. Many thanks to the family for making Peanut Butter's wishes come true. Special Sunday Pupdate! ☺️
This will be a throwback Pupdate for some of our long time volunteers.
This girl was a favorite while she was at the shelter. Very sweet, cute, gentle.
We just couldn't understand why she hadn't been adopted.
One of our volunteers mentioned her to some friends and they came out to meet Annie, fell in love, and took her home.
That was almost 6 years ago.
This young family has gone through many challenges and changes in that 6 years.
They fostered an injured dog that had nowhere to go until a forever home could be found.
While away from home one day they got a call from a neighbor that their house was on fire....The dogs were all crated in the house. Luckily they had a fenced in yard and the neighbors were able to get to the dogs and get them all outside. A few years later they moved into a new home.
That is a lot for humans and dogs to go through!
With all the changes the dogs were stressed and some behavioral issues started to show.
Annie was no longer getting along with the older dog in the home.
The family contacted us for help.
They were heartbroken thinking they would have to rehome Annie.
The two options were to rehome or to train and manage..Now the second options is not easy and it's something you do everyday...They wanted to try this option.
They had an in-house training session with Your Dog.
The vast knowledge of canine behavior that the trainer has was amazing, but I also think that when the trainer can say, I've been through this myself, hearing that really helps people relate and realize what this will take -because to those of us who don't have this knowledge it can seem quite overwhelming.
That's why this update is so special.
It wasn't easy but they never gave up on Annie...AND to have them now say-
We run a strictly managed household
is AMAZING! We wish more people understood this so more dogs could
hopefully stay in their homes.

We adopted Emmylou, formerly known as Sheeba, in May 2020. We were told she was about 5 months old and had been surrendered with her brother.
She is the sweetest girl and loves to talk to us, especially when we get home. We’ve never had a dog that is so vocal! She loves the other pups in her pack- Josie and Pippa.
ADOPTED: Sage is a four month old puppy that came to SCAC on 02/24 as a stray. She is listed as a border collie/german shorthaired pointer mix. What ever she is, she is adorable. Sage is very playful and seems to love interacting with other dogs as well as people. This nice lady and her husband were the lucky ones to get their application in first. Tonight Sage is in her new home and we hope she keeps making her new mom laugh. Many thanks for adopting at SCAC.
ADOPTED: Odette is a stunning one year old calico that came to SCAC on 03/07 as a stray. This petite little girl is just wonderful. She loves being petted and is a great biscuit maker. Odette also has a very sweet purr that works quite a bit. Today a very nice couple came in and with the help of volunteers, fell in love with Odette. Tonight this special girl has a loving new home and we are very happy that her stay was a short one. Many thanks to the adopters.

ADOPTED: This pretty girl is 1 year old Ariel. She came to SCAC on 02/21 as a stray. Don't believe this rather serious picture. This girl is full of life, fun and affection. Ariel is very active but also loves attention. Today a gentleman and some of his family thought that Ariel would be a great addition to his home. Many thanks for adopting Ariel at SCAC and have a ton of fun with her.
ADOPTED: Febe is a unique, petite, and lovely ginger and white sweetheart, around 13 months old. She was picked up as a stray on February 20. Febe is unique because most orange / ginger kitties are males. Another fun fact is that orange male cats are typically larger than usual, while female orange cats generally are smaller than usual. Febe is extremely affectionate and has achieved official lap cat certification due to her loving personality. Yesterday an adopter thought that Febe was perfect and gave her a loving new home. PRINCESS---Do you need some royalty in your home? I am your girl! My name is Princess, a lovely lab mix with a soft
brown and black coat. I'm 8 years old, walk regally beside you on the leash and would be glad to be at your beck and call.

Tibby showed pro-social behavior with other dogs in a controlled environment.
She doesn't really know how to play with other dogs but as she went along was getting playful.
ADOPTED: Ivory is a precious 5 month old baby that came to SCAC on 03/03 as an owner surrender. We haven't know this sweet girl long but we really have enjoyed spending time with her. Today this nice lady, who has adopted from SCAC before, fell in love with Ivory. Tonight Ivory is in her new home with some other dogs to play with. I made you look!!!🧡🧡 Neko wants to send a BIG thank you to Pet-A-Groom and Friends for the fabulous bath and blow out!! He had a lot of fun strutting around and showing off his beautifully groomed coat! -This boy makes everyone look! 😉 So why is he not adopted yet?? He's really not into Gucci or LV... He's more into toys and playing outside. He is approximately 2/3 years old-We were told previously 5-6 but vet thinks much younger. You have seen the video of this handsome, blue eyed boy looking all debonair. Now the video rescues don't want you to see......🤣🤣🤣🤣 This boy had us laughing through most of the "takes" 🎬 🎥
WET NOSE WEDNESDAY ➡️ Did you know Friends of Sangamon County Animal Control has a rescue/foster program for dogs that need extra care? Sometimes dogs arrive at SCAC with medical issues or they’re just too terrified by the shelter environment. When that happens, Friend’s rescue steps in to provide the extra help and comfort that is needed. Our Wet Nose Wednesday star is one of the dogs who needed extra love and attention. Neko is a strikingly handsome 1 year old husky/shepherd mix. When he arrived at SCAC he was terrified and panicked. After awhile he warmed up to some volunteers but it was obvious he needed extra time and training before he could be adopted. Neko has been living with one of our experienced fosters and she says this once terrified dog is now the easiest foster she’s ever had. Neko is good natured with people, athletic and playful. He’s a very sweet boy with an endearing personality. He’s crate trained and he barks at cats so he would do best in a home without cats. Because he’s a Husky Neko needs an active family who will take him for walks and engage in structured play and training games every day. This good girl is URGENT❗️ She's NOT urgent because the shelter needs space, or because they are only kept so long.. She is urgent because she has been sitting in a kennel since February 14❗️ Dogs can only be kept in this environment so long before they start deteriorating. Some handle the stressful environment better than others. How long do you expect a young active dog to be able to hold on. Dynasty is a sweet, playful pup. She loves being with people, she loves playing with toys. She was walked by the cats she was scared of them. We have put out several post for the longest resident at SCAC-AC. Please help her...
Fosters needed! Without community support and foster homes we will not be able to keep pulling dogs who are at risk of not making it out of the shelter. We are a very small group who mostly concentrate our efforts of fosters on our medical needs dogs. However, we do want to help the dogs who need just a little extra time and socialization so they have a chance. If we don't give them that chance they do not make it out of the shelter system. Please help us make a difference..,
