🎣 CAST A LINE & MAKE SOME MEMORIES! 🐟🏆

Mark your calendars for Saturday, Sept. 19, and join Effingham County Sports & Recreation Services for another morning of fishing, friendly competition and outdoor fun at the Clarence E. Morgan Complex (1750 Ga. Hwy. 119 South, Springfield)!

🕖 Schedule:

🎟️ 7-8 a.m. – Registration
🎣 8-9:30 a.m. – Fishing
🏆 9:30-10 a.m. – Awards Ceremony

🐟 Live bait and fishing rods will be provided while supplies last, so bring the family and get ready to make some great memories!

🏆 PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED!
Young anglers will compete for prizes for the largest and smallest fish in each age group:

👶 Ages 0-5
🎣 Ages 6-8
🐟 Ages 9-11
🏆 Ages 12+

And the prizes are sure to make a splash! 🎉 Prizes include rod-and-reel combos, fishing poles, tackle boxes and more!

🎨 There will also be a craft station, giving kids another fun activity to enjoy between casts.

Despite the weather, Effingham County’s second Community Yard Sale was a huge success!

Thanks to everyone who participated:
💵 $1,000 raised for Effingham County Sports and Recreation through the Goodwill Pay It Forward Program
🛒 25 sellers signed up for spaces
👥 Approximately 250 shoppers came out to support the event

The Effingham County Animal Shelter also joined us with an adoptable kitten, and we’re happy to announce that the kitten found its forever home! The adoption was so quick that shelter staff brought another adoptable cat to meet shoppers.

A special thank-you goes to Paddles Coffee & Cafe in Springfield for providing refreshments and HIS Radio 91.9 for providing tunes throughout the event.

Thank you to our sellers, shoppers, partners and staff for making the day such a success. We will definitely be hosting another Community Yard Sale, so stay tuned for details!

The rain may be coming, but Saturday’s Community Yard Sale is still on! ☔️

Due to the high probability of rain, the event has been moved indoors to the Effingham County Recreation Complex Gym.

And we’re getting ready! Programming and Special Events Coordinator Jen Baldwin (left) and Office Coordinator Heidi Selman (right) have been hard at work marking off spaces in the gym for our sellers, making sure everyone has a spot ready to go. 👏

Effingham County is looking for food trucks to join us for the Effingham County Fall Fun Fest on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Clarence E. Morgan Complex! 🍂🎃

We’re inviting food truck vendors to help make this family-friendly event even more delicious. If you’ve got a food truck and would like to serve up your specialties to the community, we want to hear from you!

🎣 A 'Reel' Big Thank You to O’Henry’s Tackle & Things! 🎣

Effingham County Sports and Recreation Services extends a heartfelt thank you to O’Henry’s Tackle & Things Mobile Store for generously donating 17 rod-and-reel combos and three fiberglass poles!

These fishing prizes will help make the Kids Fishing Rodeo on Sept. 19 at the Clarence E. Morgan Complex even more exciting, and they’ll also be used at other Sports and Recreation events throughout the year.

Thanks to O’Henry’s generosity, our young anglers will have even more opportunities to experience the thrill of the catch — and take home a prize to remember the day by! 🎣🏆

We truly appreciate your support of Effingham County’s youth, families and recreation programs! ❤️

✈️ It’s a bird. It’s a plane. Actually… it IS a plane!

It wasn’t a bird. It wasn’t Superman. It was 29-year-old Pooler resident Sergio Mendez sending a model airplane roaring over the Sand Hill Complex on Monday evening. 🚀✈️

Mendez regularly visits the facility to pursue his passion for model aviation — a hobby he’s enjoyed since he was 12. In that time, he estimates he’s owned about 100 planes. And yes, he admits he’s crashed quite a few of them along the way. 😅

But Monday was a different story. Mendez put his aircraft through its paces, executing all sorts of aerial acrobatics without a hitch.

He and fellow model aviation enthusiasts regularly gather at the park on Saturdays and Sundays to fly together.

So the next time you see something soaring over Sand Hill Complex, take a closer look. You just might be watching a model aviator at work! 👀✈️

Progress at Pineora! 🚧⚾🥎

Effingham County's park renovation is bringing exciting improvements that will benefit families, athletes, and visitors for years to come.

The baseball and softball fields are being completely rebuilt with new lighting, fencing, dugouts, and major site upgrades designed to improve safety and playability. A new walking trail is also beginning to take shape, giving residents another great way to enjoy the outdoors.

Funded by SPLOST, the project also includes:
🥏 An 18-hole disc golf course
🛝 Upgraded playground and pavilions
🐕 An expanded dog park
🚻 New restrooms
🌺 Refreshed landscaping

This investment will create a modern, safer, and more enjoyable park experience for everyone. Renovations are expected to be complete by April 2027.
