Thank you to City Water, Light and Power (CWLP) crews, contractors, first responders, and public works teams who have worked tirelessly to restore power following this weekโ€™s severe storms. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

We appreciate the patience and resilience of our residents as restoration efforts reach the final remaining locations. ๐Ÿค ๐Ÿ’Ž ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿพ

UPDATE SUN 11:30 AM: CWLP and contract crews are working on the final remaining outages caused by Wednesday and Thursday nightโ€™s severe storms. All restoration efforts are now focused on returning service to the last small groups of customers and individual locations, with the goal of completing restoration today.

Following two consecutive evenings of storms, crews have restored power to more than 16,000 customers across Springfield and neighboring communities. A tornado with associated winds at 110 miles per hour Wednesday, and wind gusts exceeding 80 mph Thursday with lots of rain and lightning caused extensive damage to the electric system, including downed trees, broken power lines, snapped utility poles, and damaged equipment.

At this time, 25 customers associated with storm damage remain without power. These outages involve some of the most challenging repairs, including broken poles and wires, tree-related damage, and locations that are difficult for crews and equipment to access.

While outage restoration is nearing completion, significant repair work remains. Crews will continue replacing damaged poles and equipment in the coming days, and in some areas, brief planned outages may be necessary to safely complete permanent repairs.

THANK YOU to everyone who was affected by these outages. We understand that being without power for hoursโ€”or in some cases daysโ€”is a major disruption, especially for those who also experienced property damage from the storms. We appreciate your patience as our crews worked around the clock to restore service as quickly and safely as possible.

If you experience a new outage or have additional information to report regarding an outage or damaged electrical equipment, please CONTACT CWLP DISPATCH 24 HRS/DAY at 217-789-2121.

UPDATE 8:15PM: CWLP and contract crews are still on the job working to get the lights back on for you. Customer outages are down to approximately 240 customers in 16 locations.

Thank you for your patience with our crews and staff in working to restore power to you. Restoring service to the city as quickly and safely as possible remains our top priority. We won't stop working until all lights are back on.

Outage Tip: โ€ข Be sure to disconnect appliances and electronics without surge protection to avoid damage from electrical surges when power is restored. More info here, https://safeelectricity.org/safety-tips/surge-protectors/

The Springfield Illinois Fire Department has begun hydrant testing to ensure all are operating efficiently for fire protection. Testing is ongoing Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through August 7.

Water can become discolored in service areas located in the vicinity of the testing. If discoloration occurs, residents may run cold water through the tap until the water turns clear. Clothes washing should be delayed until the tap water runs clear to avoid discoloration. In most instances, the water will clear in approximately five minutes.

For information on locations for hydrant testing, residents may call the Springfield Fire Department at โ˜Ž๏ธ 217.788.8474. City Water, Light and Power (CWLP) customers may call Water Dispatch at 217.789.2323 ext. 2 if discoloration persists or for any other questions on water quality.
