How did your department do with No Shave November?

No Shave November is over.

Chief Gault suspended the facial hair policy and we grew our beards out(some of us better than others) and it was all for a good cause.

We dropped the razors and raised money for Tudi's Tribe.

Having a great beard on November 30, comes with a price on December 1.

Here is an actual picture of Officer Urban this morning compared to a picture of Officer Urban after he shaved in preparation for work tomorrow.

Thank you to all of the officers that participated and raised money for a great cause.

Proud to have the Rolling Meadows Police Department as one of the agencies accredited through ILEAP!

The Rolling Meadows Police Department is scheduled to perform reaccreditation through the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police. This process occurs every four years and consists of assessors examining all aspects of the Rolling Meadows Police Departmentโ€™s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services. The assessment team is composed of public safety practitioners from agencies within Illinois. The assessors review written materials, interview individuals, and visit offices and other locations where compliance is to be obtained.

This year we are proud to have assessing us Steve Weatherford from the Illinois Commerce Commission Police Department and Joel Givens from the Rockford Police Department.

Assessor Steve Weatherford:

From January 2017 through January 2022, Steven Weatherford was the assistant chief of police at the Illinois Commerce Commission. In that role, he was responsible for operations of the department. He was instrumental in reducing the backlog of cases from up to two years down to less than 60 days. Steve moved the agency forward with training, the creation of a field training officer manual, a current policy manual, and adding staff.

Prior to his current position, Steve served for 31 years with the Elmhurst Police Department. At Elmhurst, he served as a patrol officer, field training officer, academy supervisor, DuMEG agent and squad leader, detective, patrol sergeant, and administrative sergeant. Steve was a member of the 18th Judicial Circuit of DuPage County coordinating Council Law Enforcement and Courts Committee, an Explorer advisor and Illinois Explorer Conference Committee chair, and a mentor in the Elmhurst College Mentor Program. Steve is a past president of the DuPage County Senior Police Management Association. He is active in his community, as president of the Elmhurst Childrenโ€™s Assistance Foundation. He formerly served on the board of directors for the Elmhurst Walk-In Assistance Network, Metropolitan Family Services of DuPage, Big Brothers Big Sister of DuPage, DuPage County American Cancer Society and Tree Towns American Cancer Society.

Steve has a Bachelor's of Science of Professional Studies in Criminal Justice Management from Aurora University and a Master's of Science in Public Safety and Homeland Security Administration from Southern Illinois University. He currently attends Southern Illinois University where he is working toward a doctorate degree in Higher Education Administration.

Steve is a graduate of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command, and Executive Management Program. He is a Certified (eligible) Chief of Police through the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police. In addition, he has over 600 hours of emergency management training and is a certified Federal Emergency Management Agency Continuity of Operations Level I professional practitioner.

Steve is a member of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Police Executive Research Forum, and the International Association of Emergency Managers.

Assessor Joel Givens:

Joel worked 22 years at the Rockford Police Department. He has worked in many areas of the police department. His positions consisted of working patrol as an officer, Sergeant, and a Lieutenant. Joel worked on the Tactical Drug Team, and upon receiving a promotion to Detective he moved to the Training Division which consisted of training 305 officers and 43 civilians for 4 years. Joel was placed in charge of the department's Recruiting, Training, and Accreditation as a Lieutenant.

Joel was selected as the Commander of the Hostage Negotiations Team, Rockford Police Department's Honor Guard, and the Public Safety Response Team. Joel was also an instructor and coordinator for the Citizenโ€™s Police Academy, on the Catholic Charites Board, the Veteranโ€™s Court Team, and the Rockford Police Department Use of Force Board. Joel was also a member of the International Chiefโ€™s of Police, and of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE).

Joel has BA in Criminal Justice Management from Judson College. He is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command class #410, and was selected Vice President of his class.

Joel served in the United States Air Force for 21.5 years. (Retired)

The Rolling Meadows Police Department is honored to have this amount of experience reviewing our policies and procedures for our reaccreditation process.

Is your department taking part in No Shave November?

Things are going to get a little hairy around here...for the next 30 days at least.

We are putting down the razors and picking up the beard oils to support Tudi's Tribe.

We are growing beards(some of us will be far more successful than others ) but we will all give it a try to support the mission of Tudi's Tribe, helping kids who are battling cancer.

Per the usual, Officer Urban will dominate the beard growing and look like some GQ/Outdoors magazine model in about 30 days. This man can grow a fantastic beard, his 5 o'clock shadow comes in at 4am.

We will give updates on the growth throughout the month.

It is great to see such a successful gun buyback event! Way to go, Bloomington!

Conclusion of the Gun Buyback Event.

We had a larger than expected turnout and a long line had already formed before the event had even begun. The event took longer than planned and ended around 4 p.m. on Sunday. Almost all the vehicles contained multiple fi****ms and required additional processing times. We acknowledge there were long wait times and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused participants. Thank you for your patience as we conducted the event.

We have learned a lot of valuable information for future planning of events and information which we can share with other agencies in their planning. Many people have reached out and asked if we are planning another Gun Buyback Event. We have no plans to host a buyback in the immediate future.

We want to thank all the participants for closely following the safety rules for the event. There were no collected fi****ms which were loaded. We appreciate your contribution to the safety of the event.

There was a total of $50,000 allocated for the cash payouts and all the funds were exhausted. A total of 217 fi****ms were turned in during the event and consisted of the following:
Handguns - 70 (4 were classified in Illinois as "Ghost Guns")
Rifles - 66
Shotguns - 56
"Assault Weapons" - 25

There was 1 stolen firearm recovered during the event. There was 1 additional firearm which is possibly stolen. Additional follow-up is being conducted in regards to attempting contact with the owner of each of these fi****ms.

Chief Jamal Simington stated, "Numerous gun owners made an individual decision to part ways with weapons they had in their possession. The high demand spoke volumes. Those decisions perhaps varied from person-to-person. During the event many participants expressed a thanks to our staff for hosting this program. For us, it's about improving the safety in our community by working with residents, this event was just one more example."

Thank you Be SMART for Kids for your partnership. Sheri and Jenny were a huge help by distributing firearm safety information and assisting officers with paperwork during the entire event.

Are you a high and mighty "Legend" or a thrifty "Cheapy McCheapface"? Let's find out!
Halloween is creeping up on us faster than we can say BOO. Don't worry; PPPD has you covered! Here are some spooktacular tips to remember while you're out trick-or-treating.๐Ÿ‘ป

๐ŸงŸHey kiddos, remember to check (look) both ways before crossing the street. And listen, we know you want to show off those TikTok dance moves and cartwheels, but let's save it for when you're safe at home, okay?

๐Ÿ•ท๏ธNo one should enter a stranger's house or car to get candy. Netflix documentaries have numerous examples of why you should follow this advice.

๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ›Halloween is a fun and spooky time, but it can be a bit too thrilling for our furry friends. It's important to make sure your pets are either leashed or closely monitored during trick-or-treating. After all, they might mistake those costumes for their favorite chew toy, and that's not a treat for anyone! Especially if you're dressed up as an M&M.

โ˜ ๏ธHalloween is the one day of the year when age doesn't matter, so don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Let's get ready for a spooktacular time filled with treats, tricks, and all things eerie. And, of course, let's make sure we keep things safe for everyone involved.
