🚨 The Effingham County Animal Shelter is currently operating from a temporary location next door at the Public Works building while renovations are underway. Because the temporary facility has limited space, the shelter is currently at capacity.
❗ Please do not abandon animals at the shelter. Animal control is a community problem can can only be solve with community solutions.
If you have found a stray animal, consider these options:
🐾 If it is safe to do so, temporarily contain the animal and email a photo, description, location found, and your contact information to [email protected]. The shelter can help share the information to assist in locating the owner.
🐾 Check for a microchip using one of the county's public microchip reader stations. Many lost pets can be reunited with their owners quickly through a microchip scan.
🐾 If the animal is friendly and you are able, consider providing it a safe temporary or permanent home. Many lost pets never need shelter placement when community members step in to help.
🐾 If you are unable to keep the animal yourself, reach out to friends, family members, neighbors, local rescue groups, or others in the community who may be willing to help provide care while the owner is located or a new home is found.
Our shelter staff is working hard to care for every animal currently in its custody during this temporary relocation. By working together as a community, we can help reunite lost pets with their families and keep limited shelter space available for animals with no other options.
