As we wrap up Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, we are focusing on a growing challenge for our youth: Technology Abuse. 📱

Did you know nearly 30% of teens in relationships have experienced tech abuse in the last year? Whether it’s through texting, social media, or location tracking, digital tools should never be used to monitor or control a partner.

Healthy relationships - both online and offline - thrive on respect, consent, and privacy. Let’s work together as parents, teens, and community members to ensure safety is the standard, not the exception.

🖤 Honoring Black History Month: Ida B. Wells 🖤

This Black History Month, we honor Ida B. Wells — journalist, educator, and one of the most fearless anti-violence advocates in U.S. history.

After being forced to leave Memphis for exposing racial terror, Wells relocated to Chicago, where she built institutions, mobilized voters, and shaped public policy.

While in Illinois, she:
• Founded the Alpha Suffrage Club, the first Black women’s suffrage organization in the state
• Mobilized Black women voters, contributing to the election of Chicago’s first Black alderman, Oscar De Priest
• Challenged racism within the suffrage movement
• Advocated for housing, education, and economic justice as essential to violence prevention

Wells understood that violence is structural. Her legacy reminds us that justice requires accountability at every level — from media to policy to community leadership.

“The way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth upon them.”

🧡 Self-Care Sunday: Time

As we close out Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, today’s Self-Care Sunday theme is Time.

Healing, growth, and self-awareness don’t happen on a deadline. Giving yourself time can look like:
• Taking a break
• Practicing a breathing exercise
• Moving your body or dancing
• Spending time outdoors
• Stepping away from comparison

“I give myself permission to heal at my own pace and not compare my journey to others.”
— SZA

Self-care is not selfish. It’s a reminder that your well-being matters, and that healing is not a competition.

Thank you for joining us all month as we explored respect, investment, community, and care. 🧡

🚩 What is a red flag?

A red flag is a clear sign that a behavior is unhealthy or that someone may be engaging in harm, with or without intention.

Red flags are not always dramatic or obvious. They can show up as pressure disguised as care, repeated boundary crossing, controlling behaviors, manipulation, or shifting blame.

Recognizing red flags early empowers people to protect their safety, honor their boundaries, and make informed decisions about their relationships.

During Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, we’re sharing tools and education to help build safer, healthier connections.

🧡 Regardless of labels… healthy relationships share the same foundation.

Titles don’t matter as much as how people treat each other. Healthy relationships are built on shared expectations, mutual decision-making, respect, accountability, and boundaries.

During Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, ICADV is sharing education and resources that highlight what safe and respectful relationships look like.

🧡 A Parent’s Resource Guide to Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

Hi, I’m Jess. I’m a mom to two teenagers, a 12-year-old and a 16-year-old.

This February, during Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, I’m taking the opportunity to talk with my teens about respectful and healthy relationships. Neither of my kids have said they’re ready to date yet but when they are, I want them to understand how to respect themselves and others.

Here’s what that looks like in our home:
• Talking early about respect, boundaries, and communication
• Normalizing conversations about feelings and safety
• Modeling healthy relationships in everyday life
• Letting them know they can always come to me with questions

These conversations don’t have to be perfect, or one big talk. They can happen in small, everyday moments.

All month long, ICADV is sharing resources to support parents, caregivers, and trusted adults in guiding teens toward safe, healthy relationships.

🧡 Setting boundaries is an expression of self-worth.

Boundaries exist in every type of relationship—romantic, family, friendships, school, and work. They help the person setting them stay safe, respected, and healthy.

Setting a boundary doesn’t mean being difficult or uncaring. It means knowing your limits and communicating what you need to feel secure and valued. Healthy relationships honor boundaries. Unhealthy ones push against them.

During Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, we’re highlighting how learning to set and respect boundaries is a key part of building safe and healthy relationships.
