NOW has hundreds of thousands of contributing members and more than 500 local and campus affiliates in all 50 states and

the District of Columbia. Since our founding in 1966, NOW’s goal has been “to take action” to bring about equality for all women. Both the actions NOW takes and its position on the issues are principled, uncompromisingf, and often ahead of their time. NOW is a leader, not a follower, of public opinion. NOW's 6 core issues:
- Reproductive Rights & Justice
- Ending Violence Against Women
- Economic Justice
- LGBT Rights
- Racial Justice
- Constitutional Equality Amendment

******************************************
NOW activists use both traditional and non-traditional means to push for social change. NOW activists do extensive electoral and lobbying work and bring lawsuits. We also organize mass marches, rallies, pickets, non-violent civil disobedience and immediate, responsive “zap” actions. In 2004, the March for Women’s Lives became the largest mass action of any kind in U.S. history, bringing a record 1.15 million people to Washington, DC to advocate for women’s reproductive health options. NOW’s actions have established the organization as a major force in the sweeping changes that put more women in political posts; increased educational, employment and business opportunities for women; and enacted tougher laws against violence, harassment and discrimination. NOW is a multi-issue, multi-strategy organization that takes a holistic approach to women’s rights.

As of today, LGBTQ+ and HIV resources have been deleted from several federal websites including the White House, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the U.S. Centers for Disease and Control Prevention. Other terms referring to LGBTQ+ identities have also been censored and/or erased on these websites. To learn more about this, visit: https://loom.ly/0SxoOoM

While the very existence of our community is under attack, we refuse to be invisible. SAGE will continue to share important data and resources for our community, and will continue to center the voices of our LGBTQ+ elders. Our National Resource Center is still available, with resources to support our LGBTQ+ elders, caregivers, allies and community members. 💙

If you are an LGBTQ+ elder that wants to share your story of visibility and activism, please join us here📣 https://loom.ly/hjXhlaI

The Laken Riley Act has now passed both the Senate and the House and will be sent to the president to sign into law.

The is completely void of due process. A person merely needs to be arrested for an offense such as shoplifting or theft, regardless of whether the accusations rise to the level of a criminal charge and then they are subject to mandatory detention. It also has no minimum age requirement, leaving it to the age of arrest in the states.

Some posts related to obtaining abortion pills were recently hidden on Instagram and Facebook and some accounts were suspended, before being later restored.

This afternoon, Trump signed pardons for 23 anti-abortion criminals. The Department of Justice and the NAF members who were the targets of these protesters’ illegal activities worked tirelessly to ensure that those who violated the law were prosecuted. While we expected these pardons, it is still incredibly disappointing and sets a precedent that could embolden other anti-abortion individuals and groups.

We must and not accept or allow people to use harassment and violence against abortion providers to advance their own personal and political agendas.

We are only as safe as the most vulnerable among us.

Despite our strong laws in Illinois, abortion rights and access are still under threat under the Trump administration. Personal PAC CEO .chi lays out what warning signs to watch out for, and how to stay in the fight in today’s . Link in bio.

With hours left in office, former president Joe Biden declared the Equal Rights Amendment to be "the law of the land." Longtime ERA advocates like Bloomington's Sally Bulkley Pancrazio say the last-day attempt feels like a "slap in the face" after decades of activism.

01/23/2025

Heterosexist Trump administration has eliminated nearly all LGBTQ and HIV focused content and resources from the White House website, as well as from key federal agency webpages, such as the CDC.

01/23/2025

Absolutely nothing to apologize about. 🙌🏼

01/23/2025

That tracks with the tenets of a religious movement he's involved in.

01/23/2025

Biden declaring the ERA to be properly ratified has no legal effect. Congress still can and should take the Equal Rights Amendment over the finish line.

The murder of Laken Riley was a horrific tragedy, but instead of providing solutions, Congress is using this personal loss as an excuse to bend to Donald Trump’s deportation agenda. Before the House votes, please take a moment and take action to oppose this harmful legislation. We must protect immigrant communities from these unjust and draconian measures.

PHS would like to share some information from Equality Illinois. PHS understands that these are scary and difficult times. Equality Illinois states, “As news comes down about Executive Orders, here is what we advise:
1. Check your sources - There are a lot of stories about EOs might come out and what have actually come out. Before drawing conclusions about what has been signed, make sure you check your information with multiple reliable sources.
2. Wait a bit - Simply because an EO is signed, doesn't mean policy is enacted. In many cases, it takes time for an EO to convert to policy and regulations. And there will undoubtedly be lots of litigation on the EOs.
3. Don't comply in advance - If you see an EO that might impact yourself, your family, or your workplace - don't jump into action with compliance yet. Talk with your personal or work-based legal advisors or reach out for more information from trusted sources.
4.Know your rights - Let's all support our immigrant neighbors, friends, and family. LGBTQ+ immigrants and their families may be facing federal law enforcement actions by immigration agencies such as Immigrations & Customs Enforcement (ICE), please make sure you know your rights and share this information with your friends and loved ones. Check out this Know Your Rights resource from our colleagues at the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights."
PHS is committed to our LGBTQI+ community and will remain vigilant on the rapidly evolving federal landscape and share what we know as soon as we can.

Repost from

“Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde was nearing the end of her sermon for the inaugural prayer service on Tuesday when she took a breath and looked directly at President Trump.

“I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” said Bishop Budde, the leader of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. “There are gay, le***an and transgender children in Democratic, Republican and independent families, some who fear for their lives.” -

“The people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings; who labor in poultry farms and meat packing plants; who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals, they – they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation. But the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors,” said Budde. -

“She said she was concerned about “the level of license to be really quite cruel” that some people feel now.

“I wasn’t necessarily calling the president out. I was trying to say, ‘The country has been entrusted to you,’” Bishop Budde said. “And one of the qualities of a leader is mercy, right? Mercy. And to be mindful of the people who are scared.” -
