This week, we opened up our potato bins at the garden and got to harvest what’s been growing beneath the surface all season long! 🌱

There’s something pretty magical about digging in and discovering a harvest you’ve been patiently waiting for. And, of course, the best part is getting to see just how many potatoes were hiding down there! 🥔

Yesterday’s garden party had a little something for everyone — but the scavenger hunt was a HUGE hit! 🌱🔎💚

Kids explored the garden, searched for clues, and had so much fun discovering everything growing around them. We loved seeing the garden through their eyes — curious, excited and ready for an adventure!

A big thank you to everyone who came out and made yesterday such a special community celebration. 🌻

Come celebrate summer with us Tuesday, August 25 from 5:30–6:30 PM at the Iles community garden!

We’ll have:
🌱 Free fresh produce & garden bouquets
🍔 FREE hot dogs & burgers from Tick’s Backyard BBQ, while supplies last
🍗 Wings & pulled pork also available from Ticks BBQ
🚲 Bike tune-ups
🍧 Snow cones

Bring a friend, bring the family, and come enjoy an evening in the garden with your neighbors! 💚

We’re especially excited to celebrate Lucy Schmadeke, one of the 24 nominees for the inaugural Kidzeum of Health and Science For the Kids Awards! 🌱💚

Lucy is the founder of the Be Like Emma Dress Resale, which benefits the Emma Shafer Peace and Justice Fund—bringing together community, sustainability, and a whole lot of heart. She’s also a high-honors senior at Springfield High School, a dancer with Springfield Youth Performance Group, and a weekly volunteer with the Boys & Girls Club.

Years ago, Emma was Lucy’s babysitter, and the two became close friends. Emma would be so proud to see all that Lucy is doing today. ❤️

Congratulations, Lucy! We’re lucky to have you growing and giving back in Springfield. 🌿

Nothing better than a garden haul shared with the community. 🌱

This week’s harvest made its way to the amazing Iles custodians, today’s volunteers, and a young mom and her two kids who happened to be walking by.

That’s what we love about the garden—growing good food, sharing what we grow, and connecting with our neighbors along the way. 🫶

Caterpillar check-in 🐛🌿

A couple volunteers stopped by the Iles Community Garden today to see how our monarch caterpillars were doing—and got a very exciting surprise!

We hadn’t spotted any black swallowtail caterpillars yet this year… until today! 🥹 We counted at least 7 happily munching away on the parsley.
