The Washington County Clerk's Office has announced that the Washington County Board of Elections will conduct a hand-to-eye audit of ballots cast during the 2026 Primary Election as required by Kentucky law.

According to the clerk’s office, pursuant to KRS 117.383(8), the audit is designed to validate the accuracy and fidelity of the county’s vote tabulation process. The audit will involve a manual review of votes cast in one randomly selected race from ballots tabulated by one randomly selected scanner.

The Kentucky Secretary of State will randomly select both the race and the scanner that will be audited on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

The audit is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. today in the historic 1816 courtroom at the Washington County Courthouse in Springfield.

Election officials say the public is invited to observe the audit process, which is open to the public as part of Kentucky’s election transparency procedures.

Appreciation post……after working 15+ hours on Election Day…
I messaged all 4 of my Deputy Clerks last night and told them to come in an hour later than normal. They deserve way more than that but…..
ALL 4 came in EARLY…. Because “we are in this together”

How true is that! I am never alone in anything! My girls at work, our wonderful poll workers, our people at the polling centers waiting with open arms when we deliver election equipment, HQI for delivery and pickup of equipment, our crazy County Board of Election members, our County Judge who is supportive from behind the scenes, and gng on demand/ productions for the amazing coverage, Felix for always getting things back in order…..the list is endless!!
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I APPRECIATE EACH OF YOU!
