Based in the heart of Illinois' State Capitol, Saints Flight continues to provide critical care transportation since it's established grounds were set in October 2008. Saints Flight is owned and operated by Air Methods Corp., based out of Englewood, Colorado. Saints Flight is a full service team consisting of a flight nurse, flight paramedic, and pilot, providing care 24/7. Our flight team respond

s to scene requests from EMS/Fire Departments, and inter-hospital transports between two facilities. In addition to these types of flights, Saints Flight also has collaborated with St. John’s Hospital NICU, PICU, and OB teams to perform their specialty transports. Air Methods is the largest publicly owned air transportation provider in the world. With 300 bases, stretched over 48 states, and it's recent expansion into international territories, Air Methods is known as The Defenders of Tomorrow.

Training is one of the most important investments we can make in the safety of our crews, our partners, and the communities we serve.

Today, Saints Flight had the opportunity to partner with the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office and Rochester Fire & Rescue to host a Landing Zone (LZ) safety class. After discussing what it takes to safely establish and manage a helicopter landing zone, crews gathered around the aircraft for a closer look before watching an exciting K9 bite demonstration involving one of the Sheriff's Office K9 teams.

Recurrent training and opportunities to train alongside our public safety partners help ensure we're prepared to work together when every second counts. Strong partnerships and shared education lead to safer scenes, smoother operations, and ultimately better outcomes for our patients and communities.

This is just the beginning! We'll be back several more times this month to ensure every Sangamon County deputy has the opportunity to complete this valuable training.

🚁 Future pilots, flight clinicians, and first responders in the making!

Saints Flight recently had the opportunity to visit Camp Bunn to share what it's like to work in emergency air medical services. After landing on-site, our crew gave a presentation about the unique roles that make up our team before inviting campers and staff out to the aircraft for a closer look, photos, and plenty of great questions.

Whether their future leads them to the cockpit, the patient compartment, or another path in healthcare or public safety, we hope we helped spark a curiosity that lasts for years to come.οΏ½

Thank you to the students and staff at Sacred Heart-Griffin High School for inviting Saints Flight to visit your summer health classes on Tuesday!

Our crew enjoyed talking with students about air medical transport, emergency medicine, and the teamwork it takes to care for critically ill and injured patients. We also had the opportunity to show everyone around our office and answer some great questions about life in HEMS. 🚁

Thank you for your curiosity, enthusiasm, and warm welcome. We always appreciate opportunities to connect with students and share our passion for emergency medicine. Who knows? We may have met a few future flight clinicians along the way! πŸ’™

Earlier this week, Saints Flight had the opportunity to partner with Chatham Fire Department to host a hands-on airway skills course for local EMS and fire personnel.

Participants worked through a variety of airway management techniques, beginning with fundamental BLS skills and progressing to advanced ALS procedures, including surgical and needle cricothyrotomy, as well as the SALAD (Suction-Assisted Laryngoscopy and Airway Decontamination) technique.

To make the training as realistic as possible, participants also practiced on pig tracheas and lungs, providing valuable hands-on experience with anatomy and procedures that are rarely encountered but can be lifesaving when every second counts.

Training like this helps build confidence, sharpen critical skills, and strengthen the teamwork that allows us to provide the highest level of care to our communities.

A huge thank you to Chatham Fire Department for hosting this course and to everyone who dedicated their time to learning, teaching, and continually improving their craft. πŸšπŸš’πŸš‘

Recently, Saints Flight joined our sister base, Arch 2 - Litchfield, for a neonatal CPAP training focused on advanced neonatal respiratory care.

During the course, crews reviewed neonatal CPAP (nCPAP), discussed neonatal ventilation strategies, and participated in hands-on neonatal intubation practice. These training opportunities help ensure our teams remain prepared to care for critically ill and injured newborns when every second matters.

A big thank you to our education team for making this valuable training possible. We appreciate the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and strengthen our skills together.
