The Springfield Township Board of Commissioners established a Parking Subcommittee to address parking concerns in Township-owned lots and for on-street parking. During these meetings, the Subcommittee developed steps to help alleviate pressure in the Township’s business centers and to update outdated language related to commercial vehicles. These revisions to the code will fall under:

Chapter 138.13-1, Parking of Commercial Vehicles:

A. No person shall park a commercial vehicle, as hereinafter defined, at any time upon any highway, or part thereof, in the Township. A commercial vehicleis defined as any motor vehicle used in a commercial business or enterprise; any motor vehicle on which appears advertising or identification of a business or enterprise; or any motor vehicle exceeding 7,000 pounds gross weight.

B. A vehicle used in a commercial business or enterprise on which appears advertising or identification of a business or enterprise, not exceeding 7,000 pounds gross weight, may be parked in the driveway of a private residence by the owner or custodian thereof.

The Board also worked to make reasonable adjustments to Township-owned lots and overnight parking restrictions. This revision will fall under:

Chapter 138-21-7, Amendment to 138-21.7(D): The current language in this section shall be removed and replaced with the following:

D. No person shall park any vehicle overnight in any Township-owned parking lots or areas.

There will be a 30-day window before final enforcement begins. During this time, warnings will be issued to any vehicles in violation.

Now that spring has sprung, Springfield Township wanted to take this opportunity to remind residents about the “Big 3” sections of the Township Code:

Section 79-6 A (11) states that grass and weeds must be trimmed below a height of eight (8) inches over an entire lot, in all locations where said lot is located.

Section 79-6 A (12) states that premises with landscaping and lawns, hedges and bushes shall be kept from becoming overgrown and unsightly where exposed to public view, so that they do not constitute a blighting factor to adjoining property.

Section 82-2 states that a numerical house number shall be displayed on the front of each property distinctly visible from the street to help emergency services during emergencies. The official number shall be displayed so as to be readily discernible, in figures not less than 3 1/2 inches in height.

Residents with questions about these, or any other sections of the code, are encouraged call Code Enforcement Director Chris Colburn at 610-544-1300, Ext. 125
