BIG STEM NEWS FOR ONE OF OUR DISTRICT 186 STUDENTS!

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Veer Garg, who has been named one of the Top 300 Junior Innovators in the 2026 Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge (JIC), a premier national STEM competition organized by the Society for Science.

Veer’s journey in this competition began during his 8th-grade year at Franklin Middle School, where he developed and submitted his STEM project with the support of his science teacher, Mr. Troemper.

Now a freshman at Springfield High School - Illinois, Veer continues his journey as the national competition recognizes the Top 300 Junior Innovators from across the country. 🔬

He was one of only nine students selected from Illinois and the only student selected from Central Illinois.

The Top 300 represent some of the brightest middle school STEM talent in the country. More than 60,000 students participated in regional and state fairs this spring before the top 2,000 students advanced to the national competition.

We’re also proud to celebrate Mr. Troemper, who will receive a letter of commendation from the Society for Science for his support of STEM talent and for helping inspire students like Veer to explore, create and innovate.

Congratulations, Veer! 🎉 Your achievement is a wonderful reminder that curiosity and innovation can take our students far beyond the classroom.

Game Day Alert: Please note that our game start times for our home football games this Friday, September 4th have been changed to 7:30 p.m. with gates opening 1 hr prior.

We moved the start time back due to the heat wave that we are currently experiencing.

We’re excited to welcome fans to Memorial Stadium this Friday for Springfield vs. Jacksonville! Before you head out to support, there are a few important things to know.

TICKETS: We encourage you to purchase your tickets ahead of time - as there is a fast pass lane for patrons with the mobile tickets on their phone.

PARKING : The September 4th game coincides with a Women's Pro Baseball League game at nearby Robin Roberts Stadium, which means parking in the area will be busier than usual.

Give yourself extra time to find parking and make your way into Memorial Stadium. Please use designated parking spaces only. Vehicles parked in unauthorized areas or on grass/landscaped areas are subject to towing.

Football Spectator Parking is available at:
Lanphier High School Converse Street lot
Memorial Stadium lot along North Grand Avenue, from our property line to 11th Street. (This area will be barricaded and separated from the WPBL parking lot)
Street parking is also available in the surrounding neighborhood.

Please note that vehicles that are not in assigned parking spaces or parked in grass/landscaped areas on District #186 property will be subject to tow at the owners expense.

K–8 Students Must Attend With an Adult
Students in grades K–8 must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for them during the game. K-8 Students may not be dropped off to attend on their own and will not be permitted entry without an adult.

Gates Open One Hour Before Game Time
All spectators will enter through the North Gate on Converse Street or the Main Gate on North Grand Avenue and will pass through weapons detection. For a faster entry process, fans are encouraged to leave bags at home whenever possible.

Springfield High School - Illinois boys soccer took to the pitch at Lee Field tonight for their season home opener against the Jacksonville Crimsons! It was a toasty night and a hard-fought battle from start to finish, with both teams battling for every possession.

The Senators came up just short, falling to Jacksonville 1-0, but there was plenty of determination on the field! ⚽️

The momentum is building in Week 2 as our students and staff jump into learning!

Our elementary classrooms are buzzing as students dive into Clear Math, working collaboratively and independently while building skills and having fun along the way!

Students are also enjoying their special classes PE, art and music where they get to move, create, explore and express themselves.

All across the district our students are building relationships, learning routines and getting to know the procedures that help their schools run smoothly. And through it all, our staff continue to pour positivity into every classroom, helping our students fill their cups with smiles, confidence and happiness. 😀😀

The year is off to a great start, and we’re just getting started!

🎉 70 YEARS YOUNG & STILL MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

Today was all about celebrating a very special member of the Lindsay Elementary family!

Our crossing guard showed up in true ’70s style to celebrate her 70th birthday, and the birthday love came pouring in from Lindsay students and families who adore her! 🌼🎂

She does so much more than help our students cross the street. She brings a smile, a friendly face and a sense of safety to the start of each school day.

Happy 70th Birthday! And a HUGE thank you to all of our amazing crossing guards who help keep our students safe every day! 🚸

🏈 WEEK 2 FOOTBALL IS HERE 🏈

Friday night lights were shining bright across Springfield as Springfield Southeast High School and Lanphier High School both hosted home games tonight! 🙌

💙 SPARTAN FIELD | SOUTHEAST HIGH SCHOOL

The East Side brought the energy as the Spartans hosted Mascoutah in front of a great home crowd! The excitement started before kickoff, with Poms and Cheer bringing the pregame energy, followed by the Southeast Band beautifully performing the school song and National Anthem. 🎺📣

The Spartan spirit was loud and proud all night as the football team took the field and gave it everything they had! 💪🏈

🦁 THE LIONS DEN | MEMORIAL STADIUM

Across town, Lanphier hosted East Peoria at Memorial Stadium, and the Northside Pride was on full display! 🦁🔥

The stands were filled with fans, while the Lanphier Band, Poms and Cheer kept the energy high and had the crowd rocking. The Lions football team showed up with big plays on both offense and defense, keeping the excitement going throughout the night! 🏈💥

From the East Side to the Northside, our students, athletes, coaches, bands, cheerleaders, poms and fans showed what it means to bring school spirit!

Best of luck to ALL of our District 186 teams this season! Keep showing up, keep supporting one another and keep bringing the pride!

🎉 DAY 5, WE DID IT! 🎉

We’ve officially wrapped up our first full week of the 2026–27 school year!!!

By now, we hope our students are feeling a little more familiar with their schools, their classrooms, their teachers and staff and, most importantly, with one another. There’s something special about those first days of a new school year, and you can feel the excitement the moment you walk through our school doors!

Our students are already making memories and building connections. From back-to-school dances at our middle schools that give students a chance to meet new friends and strengthen friendships, to high school athletics and spirit sections where students come together to cheer on their teams, there are so many ways to get involved and be part of the school community. 📣🏀🏈🎶

And this is just the beginning!

As we head into the year ahead, make connections, try something new, show up for one another and enjoy the journey. Make sure you come to school everyday! Attendance Matters! The best school years are built not only in classrooms, but in the relationships, experiences and memories we create along the way.

Four Days Down. Connections Growing.😀

What a great fourth day of school! Across District 186, students and staff are settling into routines, diving into lessons and, most importantly, building the relationships that make learning possible.

One thing you can see in just about every classroom? LOTS of smiles! 😊 There’s just something special about being back together!

As we continue this great start, we want to give a BIG thank-you to our families and community for partnering with us to make sure our students are at school, on time and ready to learn every day. 🎒⏰
