Springfield Recreation Department's September calendar for the Springfield, New Jersey - Union County 55+ community includes: a variety of games such as bingo, poker, dominos, rummikub, and puzzles; computer lab; indoor open-play pickleball (free annual registration required); "Shape Up with Liz," "Forever Fit with Betsy," and "Music & Movement with Lisa" exercise classes (free annual registration required); fitness room open on weekdays from 9:00 am-8:00 pm (free annual registration required); RWJBarnabas Health free flu clinic (RSVP); breakfast bus trip to Green Brook Pancake House (RSVP); bus trip to Parx Casino in Bensalem, PA (sold out); bus trip to PNC Bank Arts Center (canceled); and the Springfield Senior Citizens Club meeting and luncheon (RSVP and pay $5 by Thursday, September 17). The Springfield Community Pool, operated by the Summit Area YMCA, is open through Labor Day! View hours and special activities online at www.thesay.org/scp or by calling (908) 273-3330. On Wednesday, September 2, eligible residents are encouraged to make an appointment to donate blood at the Chisholm Community Center from 1:00-7:00 pm, by calling the New York Blood Center at (732) 672-5281. Walk-ins are also welcome. Free weekday in-Springfield bus service is available from 8:45 am-3:30 pm (with some exceptions such as bus maintenance, special bus trips, and Labor Day). We can drive you to and from Chisholm, the Library, supermarkets, pharmacies, salons, fitness clubs, physical therapy, Post Office, stores, restaurants, doctors, the Pool, and more! A new year of weekly non-competitive pick-up basketball games for Springfield, New Jersey - Union County men ages 35+ begins this week! The program costs $30 (residents) or $55 (non-residents, returners only). Prior to playing, registration and payment must be completed online on CommunityPass at https://register.communitypass.net/springfield Payment is not accepted on-site. Questions? The senior citizens garden located at the Chisholm Community Center in Springfield, New Jersey - Union County continues to bloom this summer with fresh and healthy crops thanks to the efforts of volunteers Patricia and Margaret. Planted in the garden plot are flowers and vegetables -- such as garlic, onions, beets, lettuce, radishes, tomatoes, cucumbers, chard, broccoli, and various spices -- that are enjoyed by Springfield's senior citizens who frequent the building. A comfortable seating area is enjoyed adjacent to the garden. To volunteer in the garden, contact Ilene in the Springfield Recreation Department at (973) 912-2227.

Join us! In less than two weeks, Springfield, New Jersey - Union County's 55+ community is heading down the Garden State Parkway to the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel for a concert by the Bronx Wanderers and Anthony Duke Claus with host Dennis Nardone! On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, we'll leave the Chisholm Community Center at 11:30 am and return at approximately 4:30 pm. The trip costs $15 and includes round-trip transportation, chaperone, and a dessert treat. The trip is open to Springfield residents ages 55+ and members of the Springfield Senior Citizens Club. Seats are first-come first-served with paid registration.
