Steam Jenny Brings Heart and Harmony to the Garden Party

Our lineup rollout is complete—and we couldn’t be more excited to share this final piece with you.

When Steam Jenny takes the stage at the Garden Party Fundraiser on May 9 (5–9 PM at Springfield Elks Lodge #158), they won’t just be playing music—they’ll be creating a shared experience, connection, storytelling, and a shared sense of purpose.

Known for their warmth, versatility, and emotional depth, the acoustic duo blends guitar, harmonica, and rich vocal harmonies into a sound that feels both intimate and expansive. Their music crosses genres effortlessly, pairing reimagined favorites with original songs that reflect life’s most honest moments.

The acoustic duo, made up of Curt Fields and Suzanne Waldren, has built a sound rooted in warmth, versatility, and emotional depth. Blending guitar, harmonica, and rich vocal harmonies, Steam Jenny reimagines songs across genres while weaving in original material that reflects life’s most honest moments.

“We’re really drawn to the emotional and communal power of acoustic music,” they explain. “Our inspiration comes from life itself—especially those raw, unfiltered moments that connect us all.”

Their performances are known for their spontaneity and energy. With Curt handling instrumentation and both Curt and Suzanne sharing lead vocals, their live shows feel less like a performance and more like a conversation—one that invites the audience in.

A Personal Connection to the Cause
For Steam Jenny, this isn’t just another gig—it’s deeply personal.

Both musicians have professional backgrounds in human services, giving them firsthand insight into the challenges many in the community face. Suzanne has worked directly with individuals experiencing homelessness through the Springfield Supported Housing Program (SSHP), while Curt has served as a mental health case manager.

“We’ve seen how food and housing insecurity can destabilize lives,” they share. “These aren’t abstract issues to us—they’re part of our daily lives and our commitment to community.”

That connection made saying yes to the Garden Party fundraiser an easy decision.

“When we can use our music to support these efforts, it feels like a natural extension of what we already do.”

Music as a Catalyst for Change
The Garden Party supports Springfield Family Center and Springfield Supported Housing Program—organizations that provide critical services to individuals and families facing food and housing insecurity.

Through their work, both Curt and Suzanne have seen how fragile stability can be—and how essential community support is.

“Music has the power to bring people together,” they say. “It creates moments of joy and reflection, and reminds us that we’re not alone. Events like this turn awareness into action.”

What to Expect on May 9
Attendees can look forward to an evening of acoustic energy, where familiar songs are transformed with fresh arrangements and heartfelt delivery.

“Our favorite part of performing live is that connection with the audience,” they say. “When the room feels alive and the music becomes something shared—that’s the magic.”

For Steam Jenny, this performance carries extra meaning, knowing the impact it will have beyond the stage.

Join the Experience

Their message to the community is simple:

“Come for the music, stay for the cause.”

Whether you’re there to enjoy the performance, support the mission, or both—your presence matters. From spreading the word to making a donation or simply showing up, every action contributes to strengthening the community.

A Few Fun Notes from the Duo

● Most memorable shows? “There’s something unforgettable about playing somewhere new and feeling that moment when the audience energy clicks with the music.”

● Favorite influences? “We’re inspired by artists who tell stories and blend genres in unexpected ways.”

● Favorite song to perform? “The one that surprises us every time—the song that feels new, no matter how often we’ve played it.”
