Robertson County schools, chambers, economic development organizations and businesses participate in a regional council hosted by Vol Statecalled North Central P-16. It’s purpose is to foster a strong relationship between education and business and develop a well-trained workforce.

Each year this council honors one person or business from each county with the BEST (Businesses Empowering Students and Teachers) Awards. This year Asailio Timmermeier of United Way of Greater Nashville was recognized for her work in grant writing for school programs and the Stuff the Bus initiative. Congrats Ace!

Have you seen our billboard? We received matching tourism marketing grant to have our ads run for nine months on a digital billboard on I-65/I24 northbound just south of the Fern Street overpass. We'll be using this to encourage commuters and travelers to visit our tourism website, www.ExperienceRobertson.com, and to promote events, festivals and visitor attractions. It's #MeettheBoard Monday and today we share the longest standing member of our board, Tony Neal of The Farmers Bank.

Tony has served on the RCEDB almost since its inception in 1990 and currently serves as treasurer for the Board. His knowledge of the Robertson County business community is critical to our work. And his institutional experience helps new board members with important background details of our role in the community.

Workforce development is at the top of our "to - do" list in Robertson County. Our growing industries and businesses have positions to fill and we are partnering with them, alongside our K-12 and higher education institutions and our Chambers, to find ways to grow the pipeline of talented, qualified applicants.

This morning we convened a newly created Workforce & Education Committee at the Robertson County (TN) Chamber of Commerce to discuss our existing initiatives and new programs that can both attract new workforce and "grow our own". We welcome the partnership of Robertson County CTE, Workforce Essentials, Inc., Vol State, TCAT Nashville- Springfield Campus, REdI Education Foundation, Bath Fitter, Airtech Jobs and others who are committed to this initiative.

For more on the competitive labor market and what our businesses are doing to attract workforce, read this piece from the Robertson Connection:

It was a pleasure to attend the City of Portland Council Meeting this evening to share the mission and work of our board and to present a check from the county’s Economic Development Infrastructure Fund to assist with road improvements serving the industries in the TN-KY Business Park.

This fund uses Payment-In-Lieu-Of-Tax (PILOT) payments collected from new and expanding industries in #RobCo to fund infrastructure investments like roads, utility improvements and site development costs that help
attract new businesses and jobs.

Thanks Mayor Mike Callis for inviting us!

Groundbreaking today for the widening of I-65 through Robertson County from Exit 112 to Exit 121. This corridor is critically important to our industries, our commuting residents, our agricultural producers and our visitors.

This segment is one of five phases of Tennessee’s largest and most expensive road project to date. While we know there will headaches during construction, the end result will be a positive for our community. #GrowInRobertson

Unemployment Rates Decrease in Nearly Every Tennessee County

#RobCo tied for the 6th lowest unemployment rate in the State of Tennessee in August 2021 at 3.3%, down from 6.2% one year ago. Our workforce population is currently estimated at 37,956 and the August unemployment rate means that just 1,270 Robertson County residents are actively seeking employment.

If you count yourself among that group, there are great jobs available at www.workinrobertson.com

At Tennessee Vacation’s annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism today and tomorrow. The theme is “Moving Forward” as our state hospitality industry tries to rebound from the pandemic.

Of note for our businesses, restaurants and venues are these survey results shown in this photo. 57% of respondents are very or somewhat unlikely to visit attractions or businesses that do not have clear protocols in place.

Takeaway: Folks want to know what you are doing to keep them safe! Make it clear with good signage and info on your website and social media.

Are you out exploring #RobCo today??? We are proud of all of the amazing places and things that make Robertson County a great place to visit and to make your home. Whether you are a lifelong resident, newly settled or a visitor from the Middle TN area and beyond, today is a GREAT day to experience Robertson County!

Rise and shine, it's Experience Robertson County time! All stops open right at 9 am. The entire tour is FREE! You can purchase food or souvenirs at some stops if you'd like.

Pick whichever stop you'd like to go to first, and the host there will get you all set up with what you need to participate for the day!

Few pro tips:

1) Don't forget to leave your tickets at each stop! This is how you enter (over and over) for the $2,500 in cash and prizes. The more stops you hit the more chances you have to win!

2) Thomas Drugs is open until 2 pm - get your milkshakes and ice cream before then! If you're not into the sweet treat side of this stop, we will still have someone there until 4 pm to greet you, talk about the history, stamp your passport and take your tickets!

3) Orlinda's stop, Orlinda Melon Company, will be set up in the orange UT barn in Orlinda, right at the corner of 49E and Moore Street! You can't miss them!

Ready, set, Experience Robertson County!

Small Business Owners & Entrepreneurs...your opinions are needed!

More than $65 million has been allocated to Tennessee through the U.S. Department of Treasury’s second installment of the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI 2.0) as part of the American Jobs Plan.

In order to help develop the program of work for these funds, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development is administering a survey to gather information related to the access to capital and technical assistance needs of small businesses.

All small and diverse businesses, entrepreneur support organizations, stakeholders and organizations that act as lenders or funders to small businesses are encouraged to participate and provide feedback. Participants have until Monday, August 2 to submit responses.
