July 22, 2026 18:25 UPDATE: TxDOT has arrived on scene to begin troubleshooting and restoration. At this time we have not been provided an ETA as to when it will be restored. Drivers should treat the intersection as a 4-way stop until the light resumes normal operations.

July 22, 2026 17:15 TRAFFIC ALERT – Hwy. 199 & Hilltop Drive

The traffic signals at the intersection of SH 199 and Hilltop Drive are currently flashing red, causing significant traffic delays. Congestion extends to Williams-Ward Road.

Springtown Police officers are on scene directing traffic, and TxDOT has been notified and is en route to address the signal issue.

Please use caution when approaching the intersection, follow officers’ directions, and consider using an alternate route if possible. We appreciate your patience as crews work to restore normal traffic operations.

The Springtown Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in locating 18-year-old Hayden Ebner.

Hayden is an 18-year-old white male who was last seen on the evening of July 12, 2026, near the 500 block of East Highway 199 in Springtown (near Brookshire's)

Hayden is described as:
• 5'10" tall
• Approximately 130 pounds
• Brown hair
• Brown eyes
• Last seen wearing a dark colored shirt, blue jeans, white tennis shoes, carrying a digital camouflage print backpack.

PSA: Bicycle & E-Bike Safety

With more people enjoying bicycles and electric bicycles (e-bikes) during the summer months, the Springtown Police Department encourages everyone to make safety their top priority. Whether you're riding for fun, exercise, or transportation, following a few simple rules can help prevent crashes and keep everyone safe.

Wear a Helmet
A properly fitted helmet is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of serious head injuries in a crash. Riders of all ages are strongly encouraged to wear a helmet every time they ride.

Follow the Rules of the Road
Bicycles and e-bikes are vehicles and must obey the same traffic laws as other vehicles, including:

Stop at stop signs and red lights.
Ride in the same direction as traffic.
Yield when required and obey all traffic control devices.
Use hand signals when turning or stopping.
Stay alert and avoid distractions such as headphones or mobile devices while riding.

Share the Road - Safety is a shared responsibility.

Motorists
Give bicyclists plenty of room when passing, watch carefully before turning or opening vehicle doors, and remain alert for riders at intersections and crosswalks.

Cyclists
Ride predictably, remain visible, and be courteous to drivers and pedestrians. Use lights and reflectors when riding after dark or during periods of reduced visibility.

E-Bike Riders
E-bikes can travel at higher speeds than traditional bicycles. Ride at a safe speed for conditions, slow down in areas with pedestrians, and understand your e-bike's capabilities before riding on public streets or shared-use paths.

Every safe ride helps protect you, your family, and your neighbors. By wearing a helmet, following traffic laws, and respecting everyone who shares our roadways, we can all help make Springtown's streets safer for everyone.

Traffic Advisory – Star-Spangled Bash Parade Road Closures

The Springtown Police Department would like to remind residents and visitors that several roads will be temporarily closed on tomorrow, July 4, for the Star-Spangled Bash Parade.

FM 51 (Main Street) will be closed between Hwy. 199 and Pojo Road from approximately 9:30 a.m. until the conclusion of the parade (approximately 10:40 a.m.).

Detour Information
Traffic will be routed around the parade using Pojo Road.

Northbound FM 51 Traffic:
West on Hwy. 199
North on Pojo Road
Back to FM 51

Southbound FM 51 Traffic:
West on Pojo Road
East on Hwy. 199
Back to FM 51

Intersections Closed
During the parade, all intersections connecting to FM 51 (Main Street) within the closure area will be inaccessible, including:

* 9th Street
* Ash Terrace
* 5th Street
* 4th Street
* 3rd Street
* 2nd Street
* 1st Street
* Optimist Road

Additional closures include:
First Street between Avenue D and Hwy. 199
Howell's Western Way

The intersections with East First Street will also be inaccessible to vehicle traffic including:
Avenue A
Avenue B
Avenue C

Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow all traffic control devices and directions from Springtown Police officers and event personnel. If you are attending the parade, arrive early and park in designated parking areas before the closures begin.

PSA: Celebrate Independence Day Safely

As our community prepares to celebrate Independence Day, the Springtown Police Department encourages everyone to enjoy the holiday responsibly and safely. Whether you're attending community events, spending time with family, or celebrating at home, taking a few simple precautions can help ensure a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July for everyone.

Fireworks Safety

The Fourth of July is synonymous with fireworks, but it's important to remember that the sale, possession, and use of fireworks are prohibited within the Springtown city limits under City ordinance.

While many residents choose to attend professional fireworks displays, those who travel outside the city limits to legally use fireworks should keep these important safety tips in mind:

* Never allow young children to handle or ignite fireworks.
* Always have a responsible adult supervise any fireworks activity.
* Keep a bucket of water or a charged garden hose nearby in case of fire.
* Never relight a "dud" firework. Wait at least 20 minutes, then soak it thoroughly with water before disposing of it.
* Light only one firework at a time and move away quickly after ignition.
* Never point or throw fireworks toward people, vehicles, homes, or animals.
* Use fireworks only in open areas away from dry grass, trees, structures, and other combustible materials.
* Dispose of used fireworks by soaking them in water before placing them in the trash.
* Be considerate of your neighbors, pets, and veterans who may be sensitive to loud explosions.

Residents found selling or using fireworks within the city limits may be subject to enforcement action under City ordinance.

Don't Drink and Drive

Independence Day consistently ranks among the busiest travel holidays of the year, and unfortunately, impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of serious crashes and fatalities.

If your celebration includes alcohol:

* Designate a sober driver before the festivities begin.
* Use a rideshare service or taxi.
* Stay overnight if necessary.
* Never let a friend drive while impaired.
* If you see a suspected impaired driver, maintain a safe distance and report it to law enforcement.

Texas DWI Penalties

Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) carries serious consequences in Texas.

A first offense may result in up to 180 days in jail, a fine of up to $2,000, driver license suspension, annual license surcharges and court costs, and mandatory DWI education programs.

Penalties increase significantly for repeat offenses, high blood alcohol concentrations, or when a child passenger is present, and may include substantial fines, lengthy jail or prison sentences, and long-term license suspensions.

Beyond the legal consequences, impaired driving places your life and the lives of others at risk. No celebration is worth the possibility of causing a tragedy.

PSA: Pool & Water Safety This Summer

As temperatures rise and families head outdoors to enjoy pools, lakes, rivers, and water parks, the Springtown Police Department reminds residents that water safety should always be a top priority. Drowning can happen quickly and silently, often in less than a minute, making constant supervision and proper safety measures essential.

Water Safety Starts with Adult Supervision
The most effective way to prevent drowning is active adult supervision.

* Always keep children within arm's reach around water.
* Designate a responsible "Water Watcher" during pool parties and gatherings.
* Avoid distractions such as cell phones, reading, or household chores while supervising swimmers.
* Never assume another adult is watching your child.

Remember: Drowning is often silent and may not look like the distress portrayed in movies or television.

Secure Your Pool Area
Even if your pool meets ordinance requirements (detailed below), additional safety measures are strongly encouraged:

* Keep gates locked when the pool is not in use.
* Install pool alarms where possible.
* Remove toys and floats from the water after swimming.
* Use approved safety covers when appropriate.
* Ensure rescue equipment is readily available.

Learn to Swim
Swimming lessons help children and adults develop critical water survival skills. However, swimming ability does not eliminate the need for supervision. Even experienced swimmers can encounter emergencies due to fatigue, medical issues, or unexpected conditions.

Wear a Life Jacket
When boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, or enjoying area lakes:

* Wear a properly fitted U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket.
* Ensure children wear life jackets near open water.
* Do not rely on inflatable toys or pool floats as life-saving devices.

Be Careful Around Lakes and Natural Waterways

Natural bodies of water can present hidden dangers, including:
* Strong currents
* Sudden drop-offs
* Underwater hazards
* Changing weather conditions
* Reduced underwater visibility

Always swim in designated areas and never dive into unfamiliar water.

Alcohol and Water Don't Mix
Many water-related accidents involve alcohol. Alcohol affects judgment, balance, coordination, and reaction time, increasing the risk of drowning and boating accidents. If you're swimming, supervising children, or operating a watercraft, stay sober and alert.

Learn CPR
Every parent, grandparent, caregiver, and pool owner should consider becoming CPR certified. Immediate action before first responders arrive can save a life during a water emergency. Visit redcross.org to find local CRP classes.

In an Emergency
If someone is struggling in the water:

1. Call 911 immediately.
2. Reach or throw a flotation device if possible.
3. Do not enter the water unless you are trained in water rescue.
4. Begin CPR if trained and necessary.

Build Safer Pools
As a friendly-reminder, private pools within the City limits must follow certain safety regulations. To help protect children and prevent accidents, the City of Springtown has adopted safety regulations for residential swimming pools.

Residents should be aware that:
* Swimming pools require a building permit before construction.
* Pools two feet deep or greater must be enclosed by a fence or wall at least six feet tall.
* Gates must be self-closing, self-latching, and lockable.
* Pools cannot be located in required front yards or side yards adjacent to a street.
* Pools must be at least eight feet from property lines.

These requirements help reduce unauthorized access and protect children from accidental drowning. Residents planning to install a pool should contact the City Hall at (817) 220-4834 before beginning construction.

UPDATE 22:16 - Northbound lanes have been cleared, but the turn lane remains blocked.

MAJOR ACCIDENT - JUNE 21, 2026 22:15

Springtown officers and other emergency personnel are on scene of a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of FM 51 (Main Street) and Hwy. 199. The vehicle struck a signal light pole, resulting in significant traffic impacts.

Northbound FM 51 traffic is affected
The turn lane from eastbound Highway 199 onto FM 51 is also impacted

Please avoid the area if possible and seek alternate routes until further notice. Expect delays and use caution if traveling nearby.

We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

JUNE 19, 2026 5:00 AM - FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 8:00 A.M.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for portions of our area until 8:00 a.m.

Doppler radar indicates heavy rainfall from slow-moving thunderstorms across the area. Radar estimates show between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen in the past hour, with an additional 2 inches of rainfall possible through the morning.

Please use caution if traveling near low water crossings. Never drive through flooded roadways—Turn Around, Don't Drown. Stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions and monitor local forecasts for updates.
