This week we will be working on the North end of South Old Bald Hill Rd doing prep work prior to our reconstruction project this summer. Monday and Tuesday we will be replacing 2 cross culverts. This will require the road to be closed for a period of time for both days. We will keep at least one lane open in the morning for the commute and after the final school bus run the road will be shut down to thru traffic. Please find an alternate route and be prepared to use the Southern access to 15A.
Thanks for your cooperation.

●ROAD CLOSURE●

JERSEY HILL ROAD is now CLOSED to thru traffic from 36 to 37. Only residents are to be on the road.
This will remain closed for the foreseeable future until the bank can be stabilized. This is an extensive project which requires engineering and a contractor who can perform the required work. This will all take time, and the road could remain closed all summer. Please make arrangements for an alternate route. The detour will be 20A to County Rd 36 and vice versa.
Thanks for your cooperation.

CAUTION ON JERSEY HILL ROAD
The current situation on Jersey Hill Road is that about 2 hours ago we had a bank collapse between the gully and the road. The barriers have been moved to the edge of the asphalt for the night, which essentially makes the road narrow enough to be a one lane road in that section. Signs have been posted stating just that. Tomorrow afternoon Jersey Hill Road will be closed to thru traffic for the foreseeable future as we come up with a plan to stabilize the bank. Unfortunately we have been working on this with an engineering firm to be addressed next year as part of the $1.5 million dollar grant we were awarded through the DEC'S WQIP program. Cratsley Hill Road will be opened up earlier than the April 15th date for the seasonal road closure. The preferred detour is County Road 36 to and from 20A.
Stay tuned for the road closure announcement tomorrow.
Thanks

Yesterday Highway Superintendents from Ontario, Livingston, Wayne and Monroe County's along with some of the vendors which support our highway needs met with our local state representatives to discuss the short fall in the state budget which supports our Local Roads. A huge thank you to Senator Pam Helming, Assembly Members Andrea Bailey, Jeff Gallahan, and Brian Manktelow for having our back and fighting for us in Albany. We'll see you there on March 4th when Highway Superintendents and Vendors from across the state rally and march to the capital 900+ strong wearing our orange and advocate for our fair share in the upcoming budget.

Good evening, just some information heading into tomorrow's snow event. With the temperature forcasted to be around 10 degrees, Ice Control Salt is not that effective in melting hard packed snow and ice. We will be applying our usual salt application on our first round tomorrow in an effort to establish a brine to reduce snow and ice from bonding with the road surface. Any following runs will have a reduced application rate and will only be applied to hills, curves and intersections. With a continuous snow fall and the below working temperatures of the salt it is not fiscally responsible to spread material that will just get plowed off on the following run. If you must be out driving tomorrow please use caution, turn your headlights on so that you can be seen and give our plow trucks space to do their job.

Trucks stop at town lines and intersections in order to turn around and head back in the other direction and we require space in order to accomplish this.

Also now that Canadice Lake has ice and people have started fishing it, please remember that parking is only allowed in the DEC's designated parking areas. If you are parking on the road during this snow event and your vehicle is deemed to be an obstruction, it will be towed at the owners expense. This also applies to any other town and/or county road.

Thank you for your cooperation, drive safe and if you don't have to be on the roads please stay home.

Great news last week for the Town of Canadice. The Highway Department and Town Board have teamed up with the Ontario County Soil&Water Conservation District again on another grant funded project. On Thursday we received word that we were awarded $1,580,000 in a Water Quality Improvement (WQIP) grant through the NYS DEC for bank stabilization and erosion control on Jersey Hill Road. This project entails rebuilding the bank between the road and gully in 6 locations using a couple different engineered retaining wall designs. This will also allow us to widen the road and install guide rail in those locations. Ultimately this project will midigate the bank erosion and drainage issues which are causing sediment to flow into Honeoye Lake and provide motorists a safer travel route.

Good morning, for those of you that still insist on using Cratsley Hill Road even though it is closed, need to stay off it until this is removed. Someone thought it would work out for them to take their truck and gooseneck trailer down the hill. They are jack knifed on the curve near the bottom and left the scene. The road is completely blocked with this rig until the hauling company has it removed.

Just a couple reminders as we head into winter. *Our Minimal Maintenance Seasonal Roads are closed until April 15th. this includes: the lower half of Cratsley Hill Road from the Seasonal Sign down to 36, Holmes Road from 37 to Canadice Lake Road. If you choose to continue driving on these you do so at your own risk, and more then likely your insurance will not cover anything that may occur.
*We also need to remind you that the side of the road is not the place to store your garbage tote. Bring it out on garbage day and then it needs to be removed.
* There is no parking allowed on Town and County roads during snow events. If a vehicle is deemed to be an obstruction we will make an effort to contact the owner through the Sheriff's office before it will be towed at the owner's expense.
* It is against the law to plow your driveway into or across the road. If you hire a contractor that does this it's in your best interest to remind them of this, as the resident you will be the one who will be issued a violation.
If you have any questions regarding our Snow and Ice Maintenance Procedure and Mailbox Policy see the document on the town's website under the Highway Dept.
