👮‍♂️ Officer Matthew Custode – Senior Road Officer
Officer Custode has been promoted to Senior Road Officer in recognition of his experience, dedication, professionalism, and continued commitment to serving the citizens of Spruce Pine. In this role, he will provide leadership and experience in the field while continuing to support the officers and operations of the department
🐕‍🦺 Officer Mark Young – Sergeant / K-9 Officer
Officer Young has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Young will continue serving as a K-9 Officer while taking on his new supervisory responsibilities. His dedication to the department, commitment to the community, and work in the field have made him a valuable member of the SPPD team.

Both promotions were made by Chief Kasey Cook as part of the department's continued effort to recognize officers who demonstrate leadership, professionalism, dedication, and a commitment to the citizens we serve.

On August 5, 2026, Officers with the Spruce Pine Police Department responded to a reported physical domestic violence call. During the course of the investigation, Officers learned that a juvenille had also allegedly been assaulted during the incident.

As a result of the investigation, two individuals were taken into custody and charged with the following:

In the early morning hours of August 4, 2026, Officers with the Spruce Pine Police Department apprehended two individuals in connection with the theft of copper wiring from the Ingles property.

While conducting routine business checks, Officers observed suspicious activity at the location, which has remained closed due to prior storm damage. Upon further investigation, Officers located two individuals actively involved in the removal of copper wiring from the premises.

Both individuals were taken into custody without incident. The investigation is ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available. We would like to thank the Mitchell County Sheriffs Office for assisting our Officers in apprehending the subjects.

James Brandon Pruitt and Andrew Allen Hoyle, both of Asheville, NC were charged with the following:
Injury to Property to Obtain Nonferrous Metals
Possession of Burglary Tools
Felony Conspiracy
Attempted Felony Larceny
Second Degree Trespass
Injury to Real Property
