The Spur volunteer firefighters want to thank this year’s hole sponsors for our golf tournament. We also want to thank those who braved the heat to play 18 holes. Thank you to the Spur Golf Association for allowing us to have this tournament. Special thanks to Reid and Betsy Arnold for their expertise on smoking the briskets.

Getaway fire update. 7/10/26

Fire crews have been taking shifts at a wildfire in the cedar break terrain in eastern Dickens County since noon on 7/8/26. The fire is estimated at 1,250 acres and is 60% contained. This fire has been difficult to contain due to the wind, rough terrain, and type of fuel load.
We want to thank the following partners for their assistance.

Dickens County commissioners and equipment operators.
Dickens Fire
Pitchfork ranch hands
Kent County Fire
McAdoo Fire
King County Fire
Texas Forest Service
Connan Mowery oil (Turny Coulter)

Warning sirens could be tested this morning around 10:30. A technician from out of town will be here to work on them. We apologize for the short notice.

04/13/2026

The City of Spur will be working on the warning sirens April 14th, around 08:30am. The sirens will be set off several times while servicing them.

False alarm folks. Sorry we don’t know why the siren went off.

Heads up! We called for a spot forecast for Dickens County. A strong cold front from the north will move in our area anywhere from 3 to 5 am with sustained winds of 30-35 mph and gusts up to 55mph. Due to the active wildfire just north of Dickens this COULD POTENTIALLY create a problem for those who live in the area to the south of the fire. We want to get the message out early so you can prepare IF the fire jumps containment lines during the night.
