The next General membership meeting of the United for Progress Democratic Club, Inc. (UFPDC) will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 7:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of St. Albans
190-02 119th Ave-nue—St. Albans, NY 11412
in the church’s downstairs meeting room.
We will not have a scheduled guest speaker, because this meeting is being held right after our VOTING day of November 6th, so, we have extended an open invitation to any and all of the candidates that the club supported to come speak before the audience and thank them for their votes in additional to any other information they wish to share with us.
Previous Meeting Update
Our October 2018 General Mem-bership Meeting was held on Thurs-day, October 11, 2018.
The speaker for the evening was
The Honorable Rory Lancman, 24th Council District.
Councilman Lancman gave an update on the planned closing of Riker’s Island, among other topics involving our community. He also announced that his future plans are to run for Queens District Attorney. Our current District Attorney (Richard Brown) after being in office for 28 years, does not expect to run for another term.
Councilman Lancman chairs the committee on Courts and Legal Affairs, which puts him in a key posi-tion to see the injustices against our black and brown young people. Some of his visions are to:
1) not request maximum sentences for mi-nor offenses such as possession of small amounts of ma*****na,
2)minor offenses to be dismissed in-stead of placing in criminal catego-ries among other changes to the Court System.
Councilman Lanc-man took questions after speaking.
