Days 4 & 5 as Mayor Pro Tem were good ones!

First, I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend. It will be HOT, so hopefully everyone stays safe and cool!

Ward 6 Update
I was able to update Ward 6 residents on the proposed gas/service station. I really appreciate all the residents who have reached out, asked questions and, most importantly, asked how they can get involved and have their voices heard.

Historic Main Street
I spent much of the day in our Historic District. I met up with the Saint Charles Oktoberfest team to look at some of the decorations they are providing for Main Street and our small businesses. They have a fun joint venture coming together, and I can’t wait to share more next week!

Tourism & The Foundry
I stopped by Tourism and had a great conversation with Pamela about some exciting things happening in St. Charles. She mentioned that our new CVB Director, Megan, was over at The Foundry dealing with an air-conditioning issue, so I wanted to stop by.

Despite having no A/C, Megan and the entire Foundry team were there with fans going, working away and taking care of their customers which a Celebration of Life event scheduled there. Great group of people who just kept getting the job done no matter the circumstances.

St. Charles Main Street Foundation Supper Club
With temperatures pushing 100+ degrees, the Main Street Foundation Supper stayed on schedule and what a turnout!

A huge thank you to Randy Schilling and his team, all the volunteers, sponsors and Main Street businesses that provided food, drinks and their time. Seeing that many people come out despite the heat says a lot about the support Main Street has in our community. I have attended the last 3 years and it never disappoints.

And a special shoutout to the Lindenwood Men’s Rugby team. If you ever need hardworking, personable young men who aren’t afraid to take on any task, give these guys a call. Every time I’m around them, I’m impressed.

One Last Stop
After the event, my wife and I stopped by Jake’s on Main, where Amy Senter showed us some of the great Oktoberfest inventory they’re bringing in for month of September.

As you can see residents getting involved, small businesses investing in our community, volunteers stepping up and people working together. I am proud to be a small part of it.

🚨 WARD 6 UPDATE — PROPOSED GAS STATION & CONVENIENCE STORE AT 2601 OLD MUEGGE ROAD

I want to make sure Ward 6 residents are aware of a proposed automobile service station/convenience store with liquor sales at 2601 Old Muegge Road and, most importantly, know how to make their voices part of the official public record.

There are several steps in the process before this proposal reaches the City Council.

I have already shared concerns with City staff that this may not be an ideal location for this type of high-use development.

Anyone who regularly travels Muegge Road and Old Muegge Road knows the traffic challenges that already exist in this area. That includes congestion coming from I-70 and Highway 364, vehicles backing up at traffic signals, and the additional traffic on Old Muegge during school drop off and pickup times.

Residents from Oxford Estates, Oxford Crossing, Brighton Park and surrounding neighborhoods have also reached out with significant concerns about traffic, congestion and the impact another high-traffic use could have on this area and I agree with their concerns.

Whether you support or oppose the proposal, I encourage you to participate in the process and make your comments part of the official record.

Development is important to our city, but so is making sure development fits the surrounding area and that we carefully consider traffic, safety, nearby neighborhoods, schools and the residents who travel these roads every day.

Please share this information with your neighbors, especially those who live in the surrounding subdivisions. I want to make sure Ward 6 residents have every opportunity to be heard throughout this process.

MAYOR PRO TEM

Busy day in the best community around!

Checked in with the family who suffered the devastating house fire yesterday. Seeing our community unite around them has been incredible. St. Charles proud!

Had to stop by Grandma's Cookies and pick up some treats for our City Clerks. Had an incredible conversation with the owner and talked about their Jon Gruden shout out. Pretty cool recognition.

Delivered the cookies to City Clerks and, of course, had to stop by my temporary office while I was there. Our clerks are incredible and definitely helped keep me on task and run an efficient Council meeting last night!

Headed over to Craftsmen Industries, Inc. to check on one of our incredible nonprofit projects, the Legacy Maibaum Pole. This company truly is the best of the best, and I can’t wait for everyone to see the finished product!

Then down to Frontier Park to check out the bricks being engraved around the Maibaum Pole Legacy Project at Frontier Park. WOW, they look amazing! And there is still plenty of room for more, so get your brick order in and become part of this St. Charles legacy!

Finally, back to the most important job, Dad duties and getting Jordyn to her basketball workout.

What a Day 3! Thank you to everyone for the support, laughs, and for following along.

Incredible scenes from yesterday’s house fire in Sandfort Farms.

Chief Gragnani gave me an update after our City Council meeting last night, and I also spoke with the homeowner, who is a good friend of mine. His first words to me really stuck: “You always hear about how great our community is, but I can’t believe the support we are seeing.”

Thankfully, the family is safe and surrounded by an incredible community.

Thank you once again to our St. Charles firefighters and our mutual aid partners from surrounding municipalities who answered the call.

There is currently a 2nd Alarm fire with numerous fire and emergency units on the scene.

I am here with the homeowner now, and thankfully, the family is safe. 🙏

Please avoid the area and give our firefighters and first responders the room they need to safely do their jobs.

Keep our firefighters, first responders, and the family in your thoughts and prayers tonight.

What an awesome shoutout for Lindenwood University, Lindenwood Football and my good friend Coach Jed Stugart! 🦁🏈

Anytime someone with Coach Gruden’s platform is talking about Lindenwood and what’s happening right here in St. Charles, that’s a WIN for our university and our entire community.

One of my requests: Let’s get the St. Charles Trolley continuing its normal stops through Streets of St. Charles, Main Street and Frenchtown but add a restaurant route!

Well, this should be fun…🫣

Starting today, I’ll have the honor of serving as Mayor Pro Tem for the City of St. Charles while Mayor Borgmeyer is away on a scheduled trip.

Just so we’re all clear on the rules for the next week:

1. If anything negative happens, I had nothing to do with it.
2. If anything good happens, please feel free to thank me personally.

All joking aside, it really is an honor to hold down the fort, even for a short time. I grew up in this community, I’m raising my family here, and having the opportunity to serve the City of St. Charles in any capacity is something I’m incredibly grateful for.

WARD 6 COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

Today’s Community Spotlight is one that started from unimaginable loss and has grown into a mission of helping families across our community and beyond.

I’m proud to recognize Just Enduring, founded in 2020 by St. Charles residents Ben and Lara Gillham in memory of their son, Jackson, who unexpectedly passed away at just 6½ months old.

Ben and Lara turned their grief into a mission to make sure other parents navigating the loss of a child don’t have to walk that road alone. Just Enduring provides support, resources, and a community for grieving families, partnering with hospitals, funeral homes, and organizations to reach parents when they need that support most.

Their annual Music Bingo fundraiser at St. Cletus has also become an incredible example of our community coming together. Local families, businesses, sponsors, and organizations continue to rally around this mission and Jackson’s legacy.

I appreciate Ben reaching out from my STC Now article and sharing his family’s story with me. It takes tremendous strength to turn such a personal loss into a way to help others, and I’m proud that this organization has roots right here in St. Charles.
