Our deepest condolences to Chris, family, friends, and coworkers of former St. Charles County Assessor Scott Shipman. He was a true public servant and we will miss seeing him on the river!!!

The City of St. Charles is saddened to learn of the passing of Councilmember Scott Shipman.

A dedicated public servant, Councilmember Shipman served the community for many years as St. Charles County Assessor and most recently as a member of the St. Charles City Council.

Throughout his years of public service, he earned the respect of colleagues and residents alike through his deep understanding of the community, thoughtful leadership, and genuine care for the people of St. Charles.

On behalf of the Mayor, City Council and City staff, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Chris, their children, and the entire Shipman family during this difficult time.

Councilmember Shipman’s commitment to public service and lasting impact on the St. Charles community will be remembered throughout the region.

In accordance with the City Charter, Mayor Dan Borgmeyer will appoint an interim Ward 4 councilmember to serve until a special election can be held in November. The St. Charles City Council will consider a resolution on June 2 to formally place the special election on the November ballot.

Week 12: The Citizen Police Academy 2.0 was a field trip to Jefferson City. Judge Ginger Gooch welcomed us to the Missouri Supreme Court and explained the role of the court. We toured the Supreme Court Building that opened in 1907 and was built with the profits from the 1904 World’s Fair. Attorney General Catherine Hanaway was called away to Washington DC but her capable staff provided an overview of what the Attorney General’s Office does. We also toured the old Missouri State Penitentiary (1836-2004), the gas chamber, and museum.

Missouri’s lakes and streams will welcome a lot of visitors during the Memorial Day weekend. When you’re on the water, be courteous and watch your wake. Larger wakes endanger other boaters and cause damage to docks and shorelines. Make sure you have one life jacket for each person on your boat and use them! Designate a sober operator if alcohol is part of your holiday weekend plans. Never combine alcohol and boating.

Missouri’s first state constitution was adopted in 1820 and Article IV Executive Branch called for a Governor, Lt. Governor, and a Sheriff and Coroner to be elected in each county. The Office of the Sheriff remained for 135 years until it was removed in 1945 and a newly added provision allowed certain counties to determine their own county officials and duties. Today the Missouri Legislature passed S.J.R. 87 and now the voters will decide to return the Office of Sheriff to our state constitution. Thank you to the St. Charles County delegation for your UNANIMOUS support!!!
