For many people, laundry is just another chore. For others, the cost of clean clothing, bedding, and towels can be a real financial challenge.

To help ease that burden, The Care Service at Sts. Joachim & Ann and UnitedHealthcare are partnering to host Loads of Kindness on September 10 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Just Come Clean in St. Charles.

A limited number of free laundry loads will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Households may receive up to 2-3 loads based on household size. Free laundry detergent and community resources will also be available while supplies last.

There are no income requirements or eligibility restrictions.

As everyday costs continue to rise, even basic necessities can become difficult to afford. Through Loads of Kindness, we're providing a little relief and reminding our neighbors that they don't have to face those challenges alone.

To our new followers or anyone who may not know us, we're The Care Service!

For over 40 years, we've been serving the most vulnerable individuals and families in St. Charles, Lincoln, and Warren Counties, driven by our mission to serve those in crisis and prevent homelessness and hunger.

We accomplish this through programs that address immediate needs while fostering long-term stability, including Case Management, Transitional and Affordable Housing, Housing Assistance, Street Outreach, our Food Pantry, and our annual Adopt-A-Family program.

We hope you'll stay, learn more about our work, and join us in supporting our mission. Stay tuned for more in-depth posts highlighting each of our programs!

Remember the excitement of getting ready for the first day of school? For children facing housing instability, the first day of school can bring more anxiety than excitement. Families struggling to keep a roof over their heads often experience frequent moves, overcrowded living situations, transportation problems, and inconsistent daily routines. These challenges often lead to increased absences, lower academic performance, and difficulty staying connected to school. Research consistently shows that students experiencing housing instability or homelessness have significantly educational outcomes than their housed peers.

Something as simple as a new backpack and the supplies needed for class cannot solve housing insecurity, but it can remove one immediate barrier. When children arrive at school with the tools they need, they are better able to participate, feel included among their peers, and begin the year with a sense of dignity and confidence. For families already stretched to their limits, these supplies also ease a financial burden so scarce resources can be directed toward essential needs such as food, rent, and utilities.

These backpacks are helping children facing food insecurity and housing challenges show up ready to learn, build confidence, and focus on what every child deserves: the opportunity to succeed in school.

A devastating flood changed Destiny's family's life in an instant, but it wasn't the end of their story.

After severe flooding forced Destiny and her two daughters from their home, they returned to find they had lost nearly everything. With support from The Care Service, Destiny connected with a case manager, secured stable housing, and received essential household items to help her family start over.

Today, they're not just rebuilding, they're thriving.

"We came together. There's a lot of stuff we took for granted... I would never take my housing, water, food, even a washer and dryer for granted."

Because of compassionate supporters, families like Destiny's can find stability, hope, and a fresh start after crisis.

Take a look at what our pantry staff and volunteers have been up to lately!

Over the past two weeks, we've been distributing backpacks and school supplies to children in our programs. Our goal is to help every child start the school year feeling confident, prepared, and ready to succeed.

Before the first day of school, we provide the essential supplies needed for each grade level. This also gives parents the opportunity to see what's already been provided and purchase any additional items their child may need.

Thank you to our incredible staff, volunteers, and supporters who make programs like this possible. Together, we're helping set students up for a successful school year!

Due to inclement weather, we have made the decision to cancel our mobile food pantry today, August 6.
