The New Baltimore Police Association’s fundraiser had a great turnout on Monday!

Thanks to the work of the New Baltimore Lions Club, city council liaisons Flo Hayman and Jason Harvey, Mayor Tom Semaan, and many other volunteers — they were able to raise a whole lot of resources to support the city’s dedicated police force.

It was a pleasure getting to spend time with a few of our local officers, hear about the work they’re doing in our community, and show support for the people who serve and protect New Baltimore every day.

Ahead of the back-to-school season, I teamed up with the Shorewood Kiwanis Club of MI for another one of their Christmas in August events.

It was a pleasure getting to be a small part in this incredible community effort and help provide backpacks and school essentials for students. Thank you to the Kiwanis Club and all the volunteers who made it happen!

Teachers like Jaime shouldn’t have to pay thousands of dollars more for healthcare just because an outdated state law hasn’t kept up with the cost-of-living crisis families are facing today. And she’s not alone. Teachers, police officers, firefighters, and other public employees across the state are being squeezed by rising healthcare costs while the Legislature sits on a solution.

I’ve introduced legislation to change that. Now is the time to get this bill across the finish line and signed into law, so our public employees can have a bit of relief.

State Rep. Mai Xiong, D-Warren, recently introduced HB 6237, and state Sen. Kevin Hertel, D-St. Clair Shores introduced SB 1136 that would install a minimum 3% hard cap, or whatever the annual increase is, as measured by the medical CPI,…

It’s always a great time getting to celebrate the people who make our lakeshore community such a special place to live, work, and raise a family.

This year at the New Baltimore Mayor’s Dinner, we had the pleasure of celebrating Citizen of the Year Jack Dailey and Businesses of the Year Seeburger’s Cheesburgers.

Congratulations to this year’s honorees, and a huge thank you to the Citizens Advisory Committee for the work they do to uplift these incredible individuals who make our community stronger every day.

More exciting news for Selfridge! This week, the governor announced an investment from the ‘Make it in Michigan’ Competitiveness Fund was awarded to Selfridge for the construction of a new lab facility. This investment will create new opportunities for good-paying jobs while expanding Michigan’s shipbuilding and maritime manufacturing capabilities.

We’ve spent years fighting to protect and grow Selfridge — and this is another step forward in building a stronger future for the base, our region, and Michigan’s defense economy.

This is what it looks like when we invest in transformational projects that bring our community together.

During my first year in the Michigan Senate, we secured funding to help Lake Shore Public Schools build a new childcare and community center. Now, that vision has finally become a reality — and seeing this space ready to open its doors is truly something special. From new childcare and Pre-K classrooms to a field house, plus space for community meetings, celebrations, and so much more, this center was built to serve people of all ages here in St. Clair Shores.

It’s a place for kids to learn, grow, and thrive. It’s a place for our entire community to come together. And it’s an investment that will create opportunity for generations to come.

In between enjoying the last few weeks of summer with my family, I’ve been staying busy fighting to make life more affordable for Michigan families. From passing legislation to make housing and childcare more affordable to introducing a bill to lower healthcare costs for teachers and first responders, we’re working on policies that make a real difference in people’s everyday lives.

A huge thank you to everyone who spent one of the last few summer evenings left at our August Happy Hour! We couldn’t have picked a better spot than Tashmoo Distilling to have a discussion about the work we’re doing to protect Lake St. Clair, support our small businesses, and more.

And I loved our two surprise special guests — New Baltimore Mayor Tom Semaan and Chesterfield Supervisor Brad Kersten! It’s always great getting to work alongside them to make our lakeshore communities stronger.

It was an exciting day today as we broke ground on a new era for Selfridge!

Thanks to an over $200 million state investment, work is now underway to reroute the Rosso Highway in preparation for the expansion of Selfridge’s runway.

For years, we fought back against efforts to scale Selfridge back and worked to protect the missions that make this base so important to our region. Today, we’re turning the tide.

This project marks the beginning of a new chapter — one focused on growth, investment and opportunity. We’re building Selfridge into a premier, 21st-century super base and securing its future for generations to come.
