Our local, independent pharmacies play an essential role in improving health outcomes, expanding access to care, providing trusted healthcare advice close to home, and more. But right now, many throughout Michigan are struggling. In the last month alone, six independent pharmacies closed their doors. We cannot afford to lose anymore.

That’s why I joined local pharmacists and patients for a roundtable discussion to hear directly about the challenges they’re facing and explore policy solutions to help keep these essential healthcare providers open in our communities.

Mount Clemens is the beating heart of Macomb County, and the community’s resilience and ingenuity was on full display at their State of the City!

I’ve been proud to work alongside Mayor Laura Kropp and State Representative Denise Mentzer to deliver transformational investments for Mount Clemens — from expanding housing and revitalizing the waterfront to supporting downtown businesses, securing a new fire truck, making critical improvements to the high school, and more.

When state and local leaders work together, we can get big things done. And I’ll keep fighting to make sure Mount Clemens has the resources and support it needs to keep growing and thriving.

For years, Dutton Farm Inc. has been doing incredible work in Oakland County — helping empower adults with disabilities and providing them with meaningful opportunities. So when they proposed the idea of expanding into Macomb, I knew we had to do everything we could to help make it happen. Together with State Representative Denise Mentzer, we were able to secure state funding so they could renovate their new Clinton Township campus.

And while I was honored to be recognized today for helping deliver that funding, all the praise and recognition belongs to Jenny Brown and the whole Dutton Farm team. They are the ones who pour their heart into doing this critical work day after day, and our community is all the better for it.

Bad policies out of Washington have caused the cost of everyday essentials to skyrocket. Michiganders deserve real relief, not more political games.

As I continue working on legislation to lower costs and ease the burden on working families, I wanted to hear directly from our community about the policies that would be most impactful to them. So last night, we hosted a town hall where folks talked about the cost of everything from housing and healthcare to groceries and utilities.

Thank you to everyone who came out to share their perspective — your input will be invaluable as we continue to work towards building a Michigan every family can afford.

We couldn’t have asked for better weather or a better group of people for coffee hour this morning. It was a great opportunity to cut through the political noise and have real conversations about what matters most to our community: lowering costs, taking on utility companies and Big Tech, and making our government more transparent and accessible to the people it serves.

It was great getting to spend time celebrating the incredible teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and staff who make the Macomb Intermediate School District’s work possible and help give kids across our community a brighter future.

While I was humbled to receive an award at their Opening Day event today, the real recognition belongs to the educators who show up day in and day out for their students and pour their heart into making a difference in their lives.

In Lansing, I’m committed to doing everything possible to support their work make sure our educators have the resources they need to give every child the opportunity to succeed.
