Bush Fire – Highway 782 (North of St. Laurent Ferry) R.M. of St. Louis.
May 26, 2026

At approximately 4:16 p.m., the St. Louis Fire Department was dispatched to a reported bush fire located roughly 2 miles north of the St. Laurent Ferry on Highway 782.

Upon arrival, firefighters identified a residential structure on the property and immediately prioritized exposure protection. 8 firefighters worked to contain the fire, establish a safe perimeter, and prevent encroachment toward the home. Although strong winds were present, conditions remained favorable as the wind direction pushed the fire west toward the river, reducing the threat to the residence.

Crews successfully suppressed the fire and secured the surrounding area. The scene was cleared at 9:26 p.m., at which time the property owner assumed responsibility for monitoring remaining hotspots.

911 dispatchers are vital first responders who serve as the critical lifeline between people in crisis and emergency services.
They rapidly assess emergencies, dispatch the right police, fire, or medical units, provide life‑saving instructions like CPR over the phone, and gather essential information to keep both the public and responders safe. Their calm under pressure and unwavering dedication make every rescue possible.

We at the St. Louis Fire Department are profoundly grateful for your service and your steady voice in our most urgent moments.

On March 29th at 12:10 am, St. Louis Fire Department was dispatched to a fully involved shed fire with a dog enclosure attached in the R.M. of St. Louis. A passerby called 911 and notified the resident. A dog was in the enclosure, but the homeowners were able to get the dog out in time. The Fire Chief arrived on scene first to assess what was in the fire and turn off power to the scene so firefighters could safely attack it. The fire was not endangering any other property and was contained with no extension, surrounded by snow and ice. Firefighters arrived in the engine, tanker, and Unit #4 and put the fire out. Members used 3400 US gallons of water during operations. Members used a thermal imaging camera to ensure all fire was out and returned to the hall to refill and ready for future service.

Our Firefighters are receiving what they have never had before in the form of helmet shields. Some officers had them but now the whole department has them and they include a numbering system We never used for member accountability on scene.

A numbered accountability system for the fire service, often referred to as a Personnel Accountability System (PAS) or passport system, is a formal method used to track the location, role, and safety of personnel at an incident scene. It ensures that every firefighter is accounted for and enabling rapid rescue operations (RIT/RIC) if a firefighter goes missing.

Their helmets without the shields were a snag hazard as well. It's a first for St. Louis Fire Department and they just look amazing!

St. Louis Fire Department would like to recognize and thank the SaskPower Emergency Services Grant program. We were able to purchase a new Thermal Camera Drone with $4,000. given to us along with monies from the Firefighters fund raising account. Members decided to purchase the drone from several options. Thermal camera drones can see through smoke, see temperature differences or hot spots of fires and find people in distress from large distances in all conditions day or night. Our hope is this added tool in our toolbox will help us provide the ability to help those we serve. Thank you very much SaskPower!
