✅ MEYER for Lemay Fire Tuesday, April 4 ✅

I would like to thank you for your continued support throughout my years of service to the Lemay Fire Protection District and the Lemay community! Additionally, I would like to thank my fellow board members Jerry Schloss and Jerry Cox for their support and encouragement for my re-election to the Lemay Fire Board. We are united and work well together to provide the best services, equipment, and personnel to the residents and businesses of the Lemay community.

As previously noted, our entire budget is based on the assessed valuation of real estate and personal property taxes. Unlike a private business, we cannot raise prices if we run low on reserves, need to replace damaged equipment, or make emergency repairs to the fire house. As a financially responsible board, we are able to increase services, purchase, new equipment, increase salaries and benefits, maintain the fire house, and put money into reserves in case the “what if“ happens – all without incurring debt or raising your taxes.

Reading through the public posts of my opponent thus far, the one thing he continues to push is that the firefighters/paramedics support him. While offering fair wages and benefits is something I and the other members of the board already provide, we work to create balance between taking care of the firefighters/paramedics and YOU, the residents of the community who are paying their salaries through your taxes.

Have you wondered why the Lemay firefighters/paramedics are supporting my opponent? I don’t know of any profession that allows you to choose your administrator. For those of you who already know, I think you will agree that the Lemay firefighters/paramedics are paid fair wages and benefits. If you are not aware and would like to see those numbers, please send me a message through my page David Meyer Lemay Fire Protection District Director. I am happy to provide them to you. The wages and benefits are public record and come directly from the annual report.

I sincerely appreciate the trust you have placed in me to be a good steward of your tax dollars as a representative of your voice on the Lemay Fire Board. I am committed to remaining accountable, devoted, professional, and respectful to all as I ask for your continued support and vote at the polls tomorrow. Thank you.

Polls are open 6:00 am - 7:00 pm

An important message from Chief Cutie at Lemay Fire…

Hi neighbors! Chief Cutie here. My friends and I are supporting David Meyer for re-election to the Lemay Fire Board. He is the ONLY candidate we are supporting!

We support him because he’s already proven to be accountable, committed, and respectful. Oh, I almost forgot. He’s financially responsible too! Do you know what that means? There’s more money left over for ice cream, candy, and toys! YAY!!!!

You are always welcome to join our monthly open board meetings to see how we operate and ask any questions you have.

Remember friends, vote MEYER for Lemay Fire Tuesday, April 4th!

The safety of our firefighters and paramedics has always been a TOP PRIORITY of the Board. We keep them protected with up-to-date personal fire gear. We have purchased multiple ambulances, firetrucks, a power stretcher for the ambulance, and bullet-proof vests to keep them safe if responding to an active emergency scene.

The cost of equipment has risen dramatically over the years.
- $800,000 - Firetruck (2019)
- $270,000 - Ambulance (2023)
- $35,000 - Power Stretcher for the Ambulance
These are just a few examples of purchases made by the Board. All were paid for with cash, therefore incurring no debt. This can only be accomplished and maintained by a resourceful Board of Directors.

This equipment not only protects our first responders but also helps us provide you with the best emergency services. A committee of firefighters and paramedics works with the Chief, Deputy Chiefs, and the manufacturers to specifically design the ambulances and firetrucks to meet the needs of our district. Due to increased back-related injuries, the Chief recommended to the Board, the purchase of a power stretcher for the ambulance. This reduces injuries to our first responders and lowers workers comp claims, which also helps us stay within budget.

The Lemay Fire District Board of Directors is responsible for providing strategic leadership, adopting ethical and legal governance, and setting financial management policies. These responsibilities not only benefit the residents and businesses but equally as important, benefit the firefighters and paramedics. We continually look for ways to improve services for our residents while keeping our first responders safe and ready when responding to an emergency.

Working together as the Board of Directors, we support the best interest of our firefighters/paramedics and you, the residents of Lemay.

The seat of Director on the Lemay Fire Board is a non-partisan position. My opponent boasts of endorsements from former political representatives. I ask for your endorsement with your vote, which is more powerful than the opinion of a former politician, or any politician for that matter.

My opponent has never attended a board meeting at the Lemay Fire Protection District. He is not aware that during the 1990's, law enforcement was present at many meetings due to political division, thus hindering progress. I am a proud member of the board who ended the political influence once held over the Lemay Fire Board, its residents, and businesses.

I would appreciate YOUR endorsement Tuesday, April 4th as I strive to keep the political machine from influencing how your tax dollars are spent.

I would like to thank those of you I've already had the opportunity to speak with about the Lemay Fire Protection District as I seek re-election to the Board. Contrary to what you may be hearing, the district has been in its best financial state for the past several years since being formed in 1942. Due to the removal of the political machine and good financial decisions made by the Board over the past 20 years, the district is NOT in jeopardy of having financial difficulties or going bankrupt in the foreseeable future. We have no debt, we have built reserves and securely invested. Working with the Chief, the Board is implementing long-range planning to assure the district remains financially sound. Regarding finances, our goal as the Board is to create a balance between improving services to the community and making LFPD a desirable place to work.

If anyone thinks I am giving the ol' political sales pitch to get re-elected, I invite you to attend our open board meetings. They are normally held on the second and third Tuesday of the month. The meeting on the third Tuesday is our financial meeting in which the district's accountant is present. You can hear directly from him that "the Board is doing a great job managing the district's finances". He has offered this compliment many times and as recently as our meeting last Tuesday. If you are unable to attend, you may contact the firehouse office, or visit https://lemayfire.org to request a copy of the financial statement.

As your neighbor and a resident of the Lemay Fire Protection District for the majority of my life, I thank you for your continued support and for allowing me to serve you as a Director of the Lemay Fire Board.

Did you know the entire budget of the Lemay Fire Protection District is funded by residential and commercial real estate and personal property taxes? Through a formula based on the assessed valuation of real estate and personal property that you own, your tax dollars support four funds. Those funds are General, Ambulance, Pension and Dispatch.

The General Fund is used to keep the district operating on a daily basis. It pays salaries of administrators and firefighters, repairs/maintenance on equipment and facilities, utilities, supplies and fuel to name a few.

The Ambulance Fund pays for fees associated with operating the ambulances, including paramedics salaries, medical supplies, medical equipment, fuel, etc.

The Pension Fund solely supports the pensions of our district's employees.

The Dispatch Fund pays for our 911 emergency dispatch calls from Central County Alarm Center along with communication equipment for personnel and emergency vehicles.

The Board of Directors appreciate your confidence in us as watchful stewards of your tax dollars.
All financial statements are public record and can be obtained through the district office.

Did you know... With Paramedic/Firefighters responding to over 4,000 emergency calls in 2022, look for a new ambulance on the streets of Lemay in the next few months. A $270,000 equipment upgrade to further improve our services to the residents and businesses of Lemay. PAID FOR WITH CASH = NO DEBT!!!

It's important for residents to know that prior to 2001, the Lemay Fire Protection District was borrowing money and taking bridge loans approximately half way into the year to pay salaries, bills, and purchase equipment until tax revenues started coming in at the end of the year. This was due to poor management and excessive spending of your tax dollars. Fast forward 20 years - I am proud to report that we have cash reserves that get funded every month and the district has had an "excellent" accounting record for more than 10 years as a government entity, recognized by an independent auditing firm. Audits are performed every June for the prior year and copies are available by contacting the Lemay Fire Protection District office.
