This Saturday, we look forward to honoring Dr. John Atkinson for his amazing career in rheumatology. He has helped shape rheumatology and the Arthritis Foundation in the St. Louis area and we are grateful for his contributions!

Dr. John P. Atkinson is an internationally recognized rheumatologist, researcher, and educator whose extraordinary career has helped shape the field of rheumatology for more than five decades.

During his 52 years at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Dr. Atkinson made groundbreaking contributions to autoimmune and inflammatory disease research, provided compassionate care to patients, and mentored generations of physicians and researchers.

His dedication to medicine and education has earned numerous national honors, including the American College of Rheumatology's Presidential Gold Medal and recognition from the Arthritis Foundation for his contributions to research and service.

In 2026, Dr. Atkinson retired as Professor Emeritus, leaving a remarkable legacy of scientific discovery, patient care, and mentorship that will continue to inspire future generations.
