During the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, around 160 Bosnian students were invited to study at universities in the United States as part of an initiative called The Bosnian Student Project. Webster University welcomed several of these students, including Lejla Susic.

On Wednesday, September 16 from 3:30 to 4:30pm, Lejla will speak about her experience before, during, and after this period of her life. Please register for this free event at the email address in the flyer.

This talk complements the exhibit "From War to the Classroom: The Bosnian Student Project," part of the Center for Bosnian Studies' collections on The Bosnian Student Project. Bosnia and Herzegovinia’s World Cup appearance has rallied St. Louis Bosnian-Americans, who form one of the largest Bosnian communities in the world outside of Europe.

About 200 excited soccer fans, made a raucous scene during a pep rally Monday evening to show their enthusiasm for the team.

Many in attendance have secured tickets for the June 6 international friendly at Energizer Park between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Panama. It’ll be the first time the Bosnia and Herzegovina team will have played in St. Louis since matches at the Dome at America’s Center in 2014 and Busch Stadium the previous year.

The team will also make the city its pre-World Cup home base for about a week, as it trains at facilities in Midtown before scheduled World Cup matches in Toronto, Seattle and outside Los Angeles.

“This is a special opportunity to have this team be here, to have people experience this, especially those of us who settled here after the [Bosnian] War. It means so much. It means that we finally recovered after the war. That’s what our community feels like right now,” said Mersida Planic, who moved to St. Louis with her family in 1995 as a child.

Tickets go on sale in 30 minutes!

The World Cup may not be coming to St. Louis, but two of the qualified teams will play here just days before the tournament begins.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina national soccer team will play Panama in a friendly at Energizer Park on Saturday, June 6. Tickets will go on sale to the public Monday at 2 p.m. Presale tickets will be available for St. Louis City SC season ticket holders beginning at noon.
