Heat is very dangerous for everyone, but especially for those with disabilities. Stay safe this summer!

Ground-level ozone is unlike the protective ozone layer, it forms right where we live. The reactions that create it are sped up on hot, sunny days, creating a smog that can irritate lungs, trigger asthma, and make it harder to both breathe and think. With the weather warming up, take extra caution on high temperature days. To help lower ground-level ozone, drive less, fuel your car early in the morning or evening, and avoid gas-powered tools like lawnmowers and leaf blowers.

East-West Gateway serves as a clearinghouse for ozone data assembled from Missouri and Illinois monitor networks to help insure quality control on all monitored data. Weekly and monthly reports are prepared by EWG staff and forwarded to monitoring agencies as well as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Transit Access Center Moving to North County Transit Center

This new location allows our Transit Access Center team to be housed in the same building. Additionally, there is improved access for those who arrive by Call-A-Ride or who require parking for a personal vehicle. Our staff and riders will also benefit from a consistent, on-site Public Safety presence. We will now be able to offer more on-site travel training opportunities and better help our riders understand the full range of travel options available to them.
Important Transition Dates:
Last Day at 8th & Pine: Tuesday, May 12, 2026
Remote-only Service: Wednesday, May 13 – Friday, May 15, 2026
Grand Opening at NCTC (3140 Pershall): Monday, May 18, 2026

About the Transit Access Center

The Transit Access Center is the physical location where riders with disabilities or those aged 65 and older can access essential services, including:
Travel Training Services: Our team introduces individuals and groups to MetroBus, MetroLink, and Via Metro STL service. They help riders learn specific routes, navigate between destinations, and use tools like the Transit App to plan trips. This program is provided at no cost to our riders.
Reduced Fare Permits: These permits allow seniors (65+) and riders with disabilities to pay half fare on MetroBus and MetroLink.
Call-A-Ride (ADA Paratransit) Eligibility: Riders with disabilities that prevent them from using fixed-route service independently can seek eligibility for Metro Call-A-Ride, Metro’s origin-to-destination service.

In addition to an abolitionist, Underground Railroad conductor, and veteran of the Civil War, Harriet Tubman was a disability advocate. After a childhood injury, she suffered seizures and fainting spells. Truly a remarkable person that we celebrate this Women's History Month and Brain Injury Awareness Month!

Today, 113 years ago, Harriet Tubman passed away at the age of 91 in Auburn, NY. March 10, also known as Harriet Tubman Day, encourages us to reflect on Tubman’s legacy and journey towards freedom. Born enslaved on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in March 1822, Tubman would later self-emancipate. She then made 13 trips back to the area where she risked losing her own freedom to free more than 70 family members and close friends via the Underground Railroad.

Tubman dedicated her life to liberation, community and grassroots leadership. Mary B. Talbert, president of the Empire State Federation of Women’s Clubs, described her as one who “fought a good fight, truly finished her course, truly kept the faith, and received that crown of righteousness, given only to the faithful.”
