SkillUp is underway! 💼🌟

Our young people kicked off Northside’s new SkillUp Youth Workforce Readiness Program with sign-up and orientation.

Through SkillUp, participants will build real-world job readiness skills through classes, presentations, résumé development, mock interviews, and hands-on learning. They’ll also have opportunities to earn while they learn by completing yardwork and other routine projects for neighborhood seniors.

Building skills. Earning income. Serving the community. Preparing for what’s next. 💪🏾

As Phase 1 of our Northside Intergenerational Community Center nears completion, we’re celebrating the expansion of safe, supportive spaces for youth. This new facility will more than double our capacity to serve young people, families, and community.

They toured the construction site with our Senior Center Director, Shana Watson, and Executive Director, Leon Threat to gett a firsthand look at the progress being made.

During National Senior Center Month, we’re celebrating the everyday moments that help older adults feel supported, connected, and valued.

At Northside, those moments happen around the table, in our programs, and in the simple acts of care that help people continue moving through life with dignity and independence.

That’s what senior centers make possible. ❤️

August’s numbers show the reach and importance of Northside’s Older Adult & Disability Services. ❤️💙

In just one month, our team:

🥗 Provided 9,970 meals
🚐 Completed 756 transportation rides
🤝 Delivered 272 hours of case management
🍎 Distributed 3,447 Ensure supplements
❤️ Served 717 older adults and adults with disabilities, including 382 Medicaid beneficiaries
📍 Reached neighbors across 31 St. Louis neighborhoods

Behind every number is a neighbor receiving the nutrition, transportation, resources, and support needed to remain healthy, connected, and independent.

Rooted in The Ville, our impact reaches across St. Louis. This is what strong community infrastructure looks like—meeting essential needs today while strengthening neighborhoods for tomorrow.

We were glad to welcome our FOCUS St. Louis Emerging Leaders project team — Kynidi Miller, Phillip Schranck, Marissa Wirth, and Nick Coudret — to Northside for a site visit and firsthand look at the progress on our new Intergenerational Community Center.

They’re working hard alongside our team to help ensure that Northside’s internal systems, responsibilities, and leadership capacity grow right along with our programs and our new facility.

We were proud to represent Northside Youth & Senior Service Center at the Delmar DivINe Quarterly Event 🤝—sharing information about our services, our upcoming intergenerational fashion show, and our fun-filled Walking Basketball program.
