📚 Join us this Sunday at 2 p.m. at Campbell House Museum!

We’re pleased to welcome author NiNi Harris for a special lecture on her new book, Jefferson Barracks: Defending the United States Since 1826, An Illustrated Timeline.

For 120 years, Jefferson Barracks was where generations of Americans trained for pivotal moments in our nation’s history. Harris’s illustrated timeline takes readers from the Barracks’ beginnings as a frontier outpost in 1826 through World War II, sharing stories of the people, conflicts, and events that shaped this remarkable military post — including the birth of the U.S. Cavalry and the young officers who would later face one another as generals during the Civil War.

About the author:
A lifelong resident of South St. Louis, NiNi Harris first discovered Jefferson Barracks as a child during family picnics. Those early visits sparked a lifelong fascination with the site and its 120-year history as a U.S. Army post. Harris is the author of 20 books exploring St. Louis history, architecture, heritage, and landscapes.

Come hear NiNi Harris share the stories behind this fascinating new book and discover how Jefferson Barracks became part of the story of America.

🎶 The Swedish Nightingale Comes to St. Louis 🎶

In the spring of 1851, St. Louis welcomed Jenny Lind, the celebrated Swedish soprano known around the world as the "Swedish Nightingale."

Her voice and reputation had captivated audiences across Europe, and her American tour—first organized by showman P. T. Barnum—sparked what newspapers called "Lind mania." Crowds gathered by the thousands to hear her sing, and her concerts became some of the most talked-about musical events of the era.

By the time Lind reached St. Louis, the city was flourishing—and the newly built Campbell House stood among its elegant homes. The Campbell family was there to witness this extraordinary moment in musical history at Wymans Hall on Market Street.

175 years later, we invite you to return to that remarkable evening.

Join acclaimed soprano Angel Azzarra for A Nightingale Sang, an intimate concert performed in the historic parlor of the Campbell House. Hear selections associated with Jenny Lind's famed 1851 American tour alongside music connected to the Campbell family and their world—all performed on the Campbells' own 1855 square grand piano in the family’s parlor.

With just 36 guests per performance, this is more than a concert. It's an opportunity to step beyond the museum ropes and imagine an evening of music much like one the Campbells themselves might have experienced.

📅 Saturday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m.
📅 Sunday, September 13 at 4:00 p.m.
🎟️ Tickets: $100
⚠️ Space is limited.

Come hear the music. Walk through the history. And imagine what it was like when the "Swedish Nightingale" came to St.
