On May 13-14, 2026, our agency hosted a Taser Instructor Certification course. Officers representing the St. Marys Police Department, Glynn County Sheriff's Office, Atlantic Beach (FL) Police Department, Candler County (GA) Sheriff's Office, and the Defuniak Springs (FL) Police Department received 16 hours of classroom and practical training preceded by online course work into the fundamentals of conducted energy weapons, the physiological effects of the Taser as well as the technology that makes it all work. Officers conducted numerous scenarios designed to enhance officer training in realistic and common scenarios.

Officers also had a lot of hands on training using Virtual Reality (VR) training environments. VR provides cost effective, yet realistic training saving time and money by providing opportunities to focus on skill building before any live fire exercises.

For St. Marys, Ofc. Marrero and Ofc. O'Brien were certified as first time Taser Instructors while Deputy Chief Iverson, Capt. Dent, and Capt. Winkle were recertified as Taser Instructors.

We appreciate Master Taser Instructor Sean Sikes for his excellent instruction and commitment to training.
